Hello, I am new here. I have been reading for a few weeks and decided to get involved. I had robotic surgery on April 5th at St Vincents Hospital in Birmingham, AL. My surgeon/urologist has done around 1000 of the robotic procedures and that is the reason I drove 4 1/2 hours to have the surgery. My gleason score was 3+4=7. The cancer isolated to the prostate and I will not need any further treatment except for bladder control and ed. Thought I would give a little background before responding to this post. I am 51 years old and it has been about 6 1/2 weeks since surgery. I feel really good and have recovered well.

I started out using 6-8 pads per day and this went on for about three weeks. Then it seem like overnight I went down to 4-5. this went on for about a week or so and overnight I went down to 2-3 where I am currently at right now. I can get by with two if I am not moving a lot and can get to the restroom at anytime. If I am active like working in the yard or fshing ect I will use 3 per day and from what I have read and after talking to my urologist I am about normal. I hope to be down to 1-2 in the next week or two and by 3 months be pad free. I have a problem with the pads. I just don't like it and I will celebrate big time when I am pad free. I seems like when it gets better it happens quick.

welcome to HW, Bamacoast. Glad to hear the surgery went well. There are so many success stories shared in this forum, I just wish more people were aware of it. Remain positive as your healing progresses, and most of all as your life has been forever altered please allow this to be a blessing, realizing that in our earthly journeys we need each other to clear the path of which we ourselves have littered. Yesterday is gone, yet tomorrow is ourselves to cherish. Life truly is good, and it isn't always what people see on the outside that counts, it is who we are on the inside. Glad to have you aboard and continue the healing. please stay in touch and share your journey with us.

Welcome BamaCoast,
You come from a neck of the woods I am trying to visit soon.  I have a very dear friend in the area who also has PC and is also a member here, his screen name ~ War-eagle ~. (Something about a football team...LOL).  In incontinence get's better for almost all to where they don't require the pads.  I had an easy go of it and don't wear them.  Patience is advisable, but stay positive too.  That I think is required.  When you get the chance, if you can add a signature line, like mine, it will help others help you.  This is a great site and many caring people will check in soon.  God Bless and be well.

I hope you continue to improve. But you can manage if it does not. There are options out there.

Thanks for all the kind words. I have learned a lot from reading on healing well over the last few weeks. Since I made my post I have went down to 1-2 pads a day. Yesterday for the first time I used only 1 pad over a 24 hour spand. Things are improving and I will be going back to b'ham May 9th to have my first psa and go through the ed therapy. Looking forward to spending time and sharing with others.

Hey Bamacoast,

Hello from Birmingham. When you say Bamacoast, I hope you mean Gulf Shores or Orange Beach. We love the "Redneck Riviara". It is the best place in the world for fun and sun. Best beaches in the whole world. We will be comin' down soon to sit on the beach and chillout. We plan on going to Lulu's for some good seafood and great entertainment. Glad to see from your posts that you are doing well and on your way to full recovery. There are plenty of good people here to help along the way as you continue on your journey.

Where did you have surgery and who was your surgeon? I had mine at St. Vincent's with Dr. Eddie Bugg. Great staff and doctor.

The wife and I will keep you in our prayers.

I live just outside of Mobile. I have been to Lulu's a few times. I was over at Gulf Shores weekend before last. My Daugther and son in law were visiting from Utah. My son in laws father has a home on Ono Island and we went for a boat ride and docked at tacky jacks for lunch. It is starting to get crowded on the beach.

I too had surgery at St Vincents. Dr Tully did my surgery. I will be going back for a follow up appointment and my first psa and ed class on May 9th and will be seeing Dr Bugg. Dr Tully will not be in the office that day. Thanks for the prayers and we will keep you in ours.
