Speaking to some people on the medical side, I get the impression that all robotic surgeries are video taped ? Stands to logic since the Da Vinci company needs constant monitoring to improve their robot /or catch an errant one in case it starts having a mind of its own
Also surgeons need to publish enough papers/presentations during conferences to further their career. Video clips/pictures of unusual findings during surgeries are good for surgeons for presentations. We do not hear much about
occasions when things go wrong, or when somebody makes a mistake. I understand that from a litigation point of view the medical community would rather give out as little negative aspects of the surgical procedure, hence would be loathe to release information. It is true that in life we have to be very positive, hold on to all the pluses, have faith and trust and be at peace with ourselves.
At the same time I think that having access to the video tape of the surgery would help us in planning for the future about
our disease,about
the possible path of recurrence, whether too much tissue was left out, whether unnecessary blood vessels and nerves that tack along the blood vessels are cut or anything else informative. Could even get a second opinion on the surgery(if we agree to a disclaimer about
possible litigation?) May even help us in deciding about
taking unnecessary medication after surgery with all the side effects, or educate us about
other related illnesses in the pelvic area on the aftermath of the surgery. More so since the people are diagnosed at a younger age these days and have expectations of a much longer life span and are expected to die with PC rather than of it. Hope I am making some sense here, any opinions most welcome.
