Milestones in recovery

It's interesting how sometimes even little things in the recovery progress become big milestones for you.

I had one last night: I slept the entire night without getting up and going to the bathroom. It was exactly a day past the six-week anniversary of the davinci robotic surgery.

My first milestone was not having to change my pad in the middle of the night.

The next was having a "dry" night (even though I had to get up twice to go to the bathroom).

The next was finding out the sexual side of the system will worked and that it actually felt good (other than the spraying urine part).

The next was being able to walk to the bathroom without hold "Mr. Happy" to keep from going before I got there. I've reverted some on that one.

The next was making it through the day without taking my usual afternoon nap.

The next was returning to work.

The next was going to a somewhat formal dinner at an awards ceremony and not having an accident.

The next was working a full 8 hours and feeling pretty normal (at the five-week mark).

The last so far is feeling pretty much normal and being able to handle a long day at work without taking a nap afterwards.

Great post!  I'm glad you point out these little post-op milestones, or "blessings."  I found myself counting these little blessings as the weeks progressed after surgery.

I have to tell you though, that I still get tired after a day's office work and that is nine months post-op! 

Pehaps I just need a few more hours of sleep each night.

I agree, it is the milestones that are memorable, like having the catheter out was a great relief, and to find out that I wasn't incontinent, my heart goes out to all who struggle with this issue, I understand how devastating it can be. Sleeping through the night without making 4 or 5 bathroom trips, still dealing with ED, but it too will pass and hopefully become another "milestone" on this journey none of us planned. I have to say that finding this site to share and learn was a major milestone on my journey, it has provided me with info and more importantly, HOPE !!! Good Luck to all and God Bless.
