First Post Surgery PSA Result in

After deciding to make the three hours trip to Austin for my first Post surgery PSA test, I don’t regret taking the trip. They took the blood and within 10 minutes, they got the result.

Good News the doctor told me, with negative margins and a PSA of less than 0.04 (undetectable), you are on your way to a full recovery. Boy, what a relief. Was getting very nervous. He told me to do my next PSA in 6 months. For some reason, I thought that for the first year after surgery, PSA test should be done every three months. Oh well, who am I to argue with the doctor - 6 months it is.

Good for you Kris!!!

Those are the sweetest words we get to hear. From "You have cancer" to "You are on your way to full recovery" is and arduous journey but having done all the right stuff, you earned the reward.

Great news Kris...always knew you would get a great PSA result...(or, at least, I was reasonably sure.)  I am going to get my first PSA on the 24th of June here in El Paso and fully expect good results.  Its just too far to go to Austin for the test.  I have been doing reasonably well but still have a problem with the incontinence.  I went to a therapist yesterday and started a programmed approach to regaining continence.  All my best to you and your family and continued good health.

congratulations. i went in for a one month test and the nurse told me they would have to send me blood to another lab and i would hear back in the a couple of days. i ask if their lab could do the psa and they said yes. i said use you lab and let me know the answer. it was the most anticpated 20 minutes i had in a long time. i reported to you guys earlier that mine came in at .04 so hoping the 2/3 month is the same.

I'm on the same schedule after similar pathology and PSA results - I too was a bit surprised when he said to get the next PSA in 6 months, so it's interesting to hear that you got the same advice.

Keep those ZEROS coming!  We all can relate to the "RESULTS"! I also though that for the first year it was every 3 months for blood draw.  Just had my last one last week, still get a little anxious. 

Coming up on my first anniversity, VERY THANKFUL yeah !

Well done ChrisP.....really great news and long may it continue. After 6 months of O's my surgeon said "see you in a year" but requested my GP arrange a PSA to be done each 4 months. However I simply ask for the request the test each 3 months for the first year and he is happy to do so. Probably unnecessary but it gives me peace of mind.

Congratulations KrisP...there are no finer word in the English language than undetectable when it comes to your PSA.

Your path report is very similar to my husbands. stage T3a, clear margins and vesicles with a very small extraprostectic extension. PSA 2 months post-op was zero (thank God). Our doctor does PSA every 3 months for the first year regardless to keep an eye on things. After year 1, hubbie might graduate to every 6 months for a few years.

Keep an eye on the PSA and God speed on your journey back to health!
