My Uncle is really suffering from fatigue, dizziness, intestinal distress, and muscle weakness (overall not feeling well at all).  Next week is his last week of radiation and he had his 2nd eligard shot about 6 weeks ago. Do you think some of this will subside after he is done radiation?  How can we help him?

Thanks  ( I have been lurking to keep up but due to other family illnesses haven't had much time to write)

I suffer from abdominal cramping that the doctor believes is associated with IMRT radiation to the pelvic area.  Since I have gone to Proton and only the prostate is targeted I am getting better and the doctor believes it will be back to normal in a week or so. 

I wish your uncle better times after his radiation treatments are over.

My father's intestinal side effects cleared up once he completed radiation. However, he did take Imodium and the Imodium did the trick during treatment. He was taking afternoon naps during IMRT and once the radiation was complete, he was feeling a lot more energy. However, the HT will effect energy levels too. Tell your uncle that we are thinking about him and wishing him strength and wellness!

I will tell my uncle about immodium. They have him taking metamucil (or something like that to bulk up). Unfortunately, he is not able to take naps during the day due to work. One more week left of radiation and then he is done his 5 weeks. Hopefully, he will feel a little better.
Your dad and my uncle have similar cases except for the fact my uncle did not have his prostate removed. Thanks for your input.

Thanks Richard, I did not realize you did radiation and Proton ( I did not know it was an option).
I hope that you continue to feel well during your treatment.

I to experienced extreme fatigue with my radiation, and much of it did subside after i was finished. however hormone therapy does have some fatiguing effects as well. I believe though about three or four weeks after radiation you will see an improvement.

When I was about to start radiation, my Rad Onc told me to expect bad diarrhea, but that immodium would really help. I also seem to remember his saying they would give me very strong Rx Immodium, but I'm not sure now if I'm remembering that part correctly.

There is a strong RX medication by persciption called LOMOTIL. It is stronger than Imodium and I use it only when my diarrhea gets really bad., I understand it is a form of narcotic and as such when I get it from a military pharmacy I have to sign for it.
