Hormone-like shot?

My urologist told me I would be getting a shot before they start radiation treatment.  I didn't catch the name of the medicine, but he described it as something that would trick my bain into producing less testosterone(?)  He said it wasn't a female hormone.  Can anyone share there experiences with this kind of medicine?

My husband was put on lupron before radiation..They said it may shrink it some before the treatment, and then he was on it for 1 year after. Be very sure that you take extra calcium, as Lupron takes the calcium out of your bones...My husband now has to have a hip replacement along with all the rest...Di

I was initially on tract to go through radiation and my doc gave me a 4 month Lupron shot (which restricts the production of testesterone). I am still under the effects of that shot even though I ultimately had surgery.

I am assuming yours will be Lupron or something similar. What it will do is cause you hot flashes, and perhaps a number of other side effects. These seem to have their greatest difficulty in the middle of the night. The greatest noticeable effect is total deadness in the man area. For me it has been tollerable - especially considering that whatever treatment you decide - it is necessary to save your life or at least lengthen your life.

When you first receive the shot expect it to have pain in the area of the shot (mine was in the backside) for a few days - again, no big deal. Blessings! RB
