Yeah Pete buddy, as long as there's the possibility of just one cancer cell hanging around to do its dirty deed, I will do everything possible to eliminate it. That's why surgery for both cancers was the only consideration in my treatment decision. (There were no options with lung cancer. Surgery was the only option the docs would consider.)

We read the stories here in the PCa forum about the 40 year old guys with stage III and IV cancer caught by a happenstance PSA test. Then we read the "statistics" that say its slow growing and really not a big deal. Who ya gonna believe? Shove the stats and do everything possible to get rid of all of it as quickly as possible.

I am so very fortunate to be stage II with both prostate and lung cancer. I attribute this to an excellent and diligent family doc that has kept track of me for 20 years. He saved my life - twice. It was just up to me to take agressive action in both cases. Lung cancer surgery was rough. I got pneomonia, had a collapsed lung, was in a coma and was in ICU for several days. I don't remember most of my eight day stay in the hospital but would do the whole thing again if it meant I have this great chance to LIVE.

You said it before Pete. Nothing beats being on top of the sod...

Go get'em Jim. Your attitude is absolutely heartwarming. I know the prostatectomy is rough, but I also know from professional experience that the thoracotomy and lung resection is a serious and difficult surgery, and takes months to recover, your attitude and determination are the reason you are here today. I applaud you and thank you for giving me inspiration.

You are right on all counts! Jim is my HERO and has been long time, way before he started battling this new demond (*lc). He inspires all who have read his posts ever since I've been a member here. Tony (another of my HEROs) we should rename "Good news for Biker" to "Jim's {Our Hero} two wheeled ride down the bumpy road" We all know he will finnish this ride safe & sound or how about "Dam the *lc> Full Speed Ahead!" I know, I've never been good w/ words but I'm sure someone could think up a great title! Anyway Jim, keep the shiny side up! Your fan club has your back!

Hey Jim,

I agree with you and Pete.  Vertical and this side of the grass.  I also agree with Pete and I never capitalize the word cancer.  I also never abbreviate it.  It's prostate cancer.  Or lung cancer.  Or whatever.  (If I have stepped on toes, I apologize, but it's what I do.)

Hang in there Jim.  I can only imagine what you are experiencing.  My best to you.

Today Bluebird (Lee and Buddy) and IdahoSurvivor (Barry) came to our house for brunch and a visit. How nice it was to see them and talk to them all again. Lee and Buddy are on one of their far ranging adventures and Barry made the long trip to be with us. MaryLu and I are so grateful to have such wonderful friends that we would never have known were it not for cancer.

My chemo port was installed yesterday and is still pretty sore today. I start my first chemo cycle tomorrow and am looking forward to getting this phase of treatment over.

Thanks to all of you for your kind words of encouragement. We can all get well together...

You are so right about how this stupid disease came with a very positive side effect. All these wonderful people. I get a huge lift every time I read my guestbook at my site. And I always love hearing from you, my friend. My prayers will have you in them. Peace...

I have been out of town and just jumped onto the forum and found this thread.  I am sitting at the computer in tears.  I know you know this, but you have touched so many lives here at HW.  I am absolutely moved by all the responses and well wishes you have received.  You deserve every single one of them and I just want you to know that you will also be in my thoughts and prayers tomorrow and every day until you are 100% cancer free!  Stay strong and keep swinging!

Hey jim,

Sorry I missed your post the other day, I've been watching the NOAA site whenever I have any extra time to jump on line looking athe the line of bowling balls coming across the Atlantic twards South Fla. But those storms are nothing compared with what you have going on in your body on the other side of the country. I hope everything went well yesterday and it wasn't too rough but I know you are a tough old cogger and they just can't keep guys like you down! I respect you tremendously in what you are doing! (the fight you are staging on this demon) I don't know that I would be so brave.

Yeah, those storms comming at ya need to be watched. I hope they all miss you, myman (Susan) and our kids in Tampa.

This is chemo day +1 and I was really sick this morning. Took lots of anti-nausea meds and held eveything down by sitting real still for a long time. Its easing up now in the afternoon and I hope the worst is over. Its miserable but worth every minute if it gives me a 20% better chance of being clean. For stage II lung cancer the historical recurrence rate with surgery alone is 55% and with chemo added it drops to 35%.

I'm glad the first chemo treatment is past.  If anyone can beat this thing, Biker can! tongue

Keep up your strength and walk when you can.  We'll go for another mile walk then next time I come to Spokane.

I enjoyed being with you, MaryLu, Lee, and Buddy so much.  By the way, MaryLu, the breakfast was INCREDIBLE!

I absolutely don't know what to say! There is a type of union with all of us that can only be experienced by those with similar difficulties. I have read so many of your responses, and indeed you are a blessing to countless people. This additional hurdle makes you even more valuable to all your friends on this forum. We will all be praying that you get through this the same way you have gotten through the other hurdles. God bless!

Hey Barry, RB and all you great people.

It is indeed strange how adversity becomes the great life teacher, bringing new friends together, loving caring friends that we would never have met otherwise. Notes here on the forum and short get togethers in person become our lifeblood, encouraging and uplifting our spirits and making our loads easier to bear.

Today is chemo cycle #1 + 4 days and I feel a lot better. Nausea is gone, fatigue is lifting and chemo fog is clearing from my brain. Its gonna be a good day!!!

Lets get well together...

Jim, I've been lax in checking in with my ol' buddies on the forum for a few weeks, so am a bit behind on developments.  I'm sorry to hear you're having to go through chemo, but happy that you're feeling better today.  Hang in there.  As others have written, you are the "godfather" of the forum and we all wish you and MaryLu the best!

Nice to hear from a friend in our old stomping grounds. Hope you are doing fine.

Chemo isn't fun but just necessary - another of those inconveniences we have to endure in order to beat cancer. And beat it is what I intend to do.

I had a small setback today - lost continence for the first time since the catheter came out after RRP. Chemo makes me really weak so will be in pads till my strength returns after 3 more infusions.. Its not major leakage but enough to be annoying and especially hard on my ego...

Jim, I can appreciate the frustration with incontinence.   The fatigue caused by chemo undoubtedly is causing what I'm sure will only be a temporary set-back.  Even though I'm "pad-free," if I'm really tired (or sit too long in the sauna at the gym -- go figure), I find that I leak, too -- and not just a little sometimes.  We're taking off on a two-week vacation on Monday, and I am definitely going to pack some pads.
