I am looking at a robotic surgery next month.  Gleason 6 etc.  Can anyone who has had their prostate out comment on what an orgasm is like after having it removed...assuming normal function returns otherwise?

The big "O" still exists after surgery. That part of function is not removed regardless of the nerve sparing or not nerve sparing. It is different in that they are dry, but feelings are still present. Now, I am no expert here because I for one have not found the right combo to return to prefunction conditions. It appears injections will bring that about once the right formula and amount is worked out.

I know that some on here claim their "O" is better than presurgery. Regardless, the decision for surgery certainly is not based on any of these things. The important issue is to rid yourself of the beast (cancer). Blessings.

PSA: 5.1
T1C clinical diagnosis, Needle biopsy - 10 cores, Gleason 7 = 3+4 in 1 core (40%), 7 cores Gleason 6 = 3+3 ranging from 5% to 12%
All scans negative
Lupron administered 4/9/2008 for 4 months (with idea I would undergo external beam radiation followed by seed implants - then I changed my mind).
Robotic DiVinci surgery - Dr. Fagin (Austin) May 19th
Post operative - pathology
pT2c NX MX
Gleason 3+4
Margins - negative
Extraprostatic extension - negative
seminal vesicle invasion - uninvolved

As you can see in my notes below, I had a remarkable recovery and did not expereince any ED.  Within days of the catheter removal i was able to achieve a full errection.  As for orgasms, well, they are different.  It seems like they are less intense, they are still there but it just isn't the same most of the time.  There are however, instances when its exactly the same as pre-op.  Wierd.

Can you still have orgasms? -- yes! Are they not as good, the same or better than before? -- yes!

I am making the point that our responses are variable -- it depends on the individual. I think generally orgasms are the same or better, in the sense that they are more intense and last longer (my experience) but others here have reported them to be weaker. Some feel the loss of ejaculate detracts too -- again not my experience.

Some ejaculate urine initially, and depending on the extent, that may put a dampener on things. But once you regain full continence, orgasms will be completely dry.

There are plus factors from prostate surgery too. No unwanted pregnancy, no mess, and with injections (if you need them) you can last a lot longer. If oral sex was out before because of the yuk factor, it may now be in.

My O's seem to be stronger and last longer than before. But I'm sure everyone is different.

my surgery was in 2005 and the very few times that I was able to achieve an erection firm enough to experience orgasm, urine leakage was always involved.

Unless I have the urge to urinate I have no leakage during normal activity.

My orgasmic contractions are as great as pre op, and I notice a longer lasting orgasm with more contractions. I did not get a full erection until 3  months post op. My fault for not using meds. See my notes below. I will say that the quality of the orgasms and pleasure increased a lot as the firmness of my erection improved. It is important to keep blood flowing into your penis to keep it oxygenated. Impress on your surgeon you want your nerves spared if at all possible. Good luck with your surgery.

I guess I'm in the minority in finding the surgery had a negative affect on my orgasms.  They just aren't what they use to be.  The build up is there, but then they just kind of fizzle out.  Real duds.

Piano, I agree with you about the plus factors. I told my husband, we have to look at the good that could come out of this...you never have to pull out again and we don't need to have a towel handy for clean up. LOL!

I agree with most of the guys.  My orgasm is really intense and lasts much longer than before surgery.  Nothing coming out takes a while to get used to but I like it.  Sometimes the build up is so intense that I feel like there is no way the ejaculation will be dry but it is and the contractions go on and on.
