Diane, that is what my Wife said when she got home. There's just not as much in the bladder right now, it has slowed down the past 2 hours or so, but I am going to bed later and just hope for the best. Thanks

congrats David!  a little bit of leakage sure beats the alternative, eh? 

when I had my catheter I had to go every 15 minutes or so for the first day or so then it tapered off.  best of luck to ya!

thats good to here califlost, for most of the day, I was going about every 10 to 20 mins, but early this evening it has tapered off a lot. My dr said since I was on a cath for so long, over 2 months, the bladder has gotten lazy, and has to relearn, and I have been on a lot of ditropan because of bladder spasms, it sedates the walls of the bladder so they don't contract as hard, dr. said the effects of that would wear off in a day or two. thansk

Well, I have made the first 24 hours without a major blockage. Didn't get much sleep last night, but flow is much improved, and nothing terrible happened. I believe I have overcome this hurdle at last.

So tired, endless trips to bathroom, got perhaps 2 1/2 hours sleep, glad to be flowing freely, feeling pretty confident about that part now, hope the rest settles down in a day or two. Thanks for caring.

Thanks Steve, yeah, but I won't miss them. That ER catheter cost about 1500 bucks. I am finally in my next phase after a 2 month delay in the catheter. Good thing, all my surgery has healed up well during this time. Trying to build my strength back, that part is taking a bit longer, no longer a spring chicken

David I remember how frightening my blockage was. I hope you are past this hurdle and on to an uneventful recovery.

Great news, David. I think/hope as the irritation and swelling from the long time a catheter was in place, as well as your surgical adjustment, goes down and healing begins you will begin to regain control and the flow will drop down. You got a very abused urinary system right now, it may take a couple weeks or more to find out just what you have now for daily living.

That's what I am expecting James, can't expect it to be normal in 24 hours, doing better today, more concerned about the night bit, since I am a touchy sleepy ,that is why I have been on Ambien for so many years, it's the only way I've been ever to get more than 4-6 hours of sleep at a time.

End of the day Tuesday, been cath free for almost 36 hours, much better today, no big accidents so far, just not use urinating endlessly, something I didn't do much of pre-surgery, perhaps in those days 3 - 6 times a day max. Now, it seems to 1 - 3 times an hour. I am hoping over time, it might go back more the way it use to? The flow is definitely increasing over time, hoping to have a better night tonight and be able to sleep some.

Hi David,

The sleep issue was one that really bothered me also, it was over a year that my sleep was continuously interupted and I really don't know how Vandy (wife) was able to put up with it.

I am hoping you regain some control and understanding of the new feelings soon and I am wishing you sweet dreams and uninterupted sleep.

David,

Even a week after I had my catheter out, I sometimes had to get up 5 times during the night. Really annoying. But this week (3 weeks later), I only get up once. I think next week I'll be able to get through the night. You might do better.

Thanks for the tip DJ, I kind of think I won't be any different then any one else there. For now at night, just because I am so paranoid, I am using the Depends "Pull Up", really fits just like a normal brief, doesn't look too weird not really uncomfortable. I was up so much last night, that it wasn't even soiled by morning. As much as this part of my recovery has some real dignity issues with me personally, I would rather have this hassle then to have that horrible catheters for two months plus. Glad you are improving in that area.

Probably my last post on this thread. Sorry, but I sometimes obsess with the detail of everything in my life. I have now made it 48 hours post 2 months of catheter time and its removal Monday. Did manage last night to get a 4 hour window of steady sleep. Woke up around 5 this morning, still dry completely, surprised me a bit, got up and went with a pretty strong flow. I don't want to jinx myself, but I am starting to feel like I am becoming continent right before my eyes. Though I believe it's a wee bit early to celebrate. But I feel a lot more encouraged this morning. Might even drive off today and run errands for the first time since Monday, didn't feel confident the first two days.

That's just great, David. I think you are gonna have a very successful and uneventful recovery from this point on.
