While you're out, you may need to use a public restroom. It's something of a milestone to finally pee outside your house, in the usual way (as opposed to emptying the bag on the lawn outside).

Thank you Todd, I appreciate the sincerity of what you said. We each have our own thorns in the side, I guess the great catheter saga was mine to bear. My weiner is so happy not to have a tube in it anymore, and its nice to move and walk and turn, and not give it a thought. Hope you are faring well today.

Hey Mike, wondering when I might hear from you. Be happy to help you when the time comes. I got the cath stuff down to a science, lol.

Today, probably only having to go once an hour, and mostly at the time of my choosing, I kind of feel like the control is coming back faster then even I thought.

First day this week I was brave enough to go off and drive some local errands. Probably could have made all 4 stops without taking a leak, but chickened out (or perhaps showed some sense) and went at the grocery store when the saw the "Restroom Sign". Made it home fine and nothing terrible happened, gave me some confidence.

REally really great David, Pete and I know how you feel. Pete used to call it "the devil's tail" He had it in for One Year....Thankfully now the AUS 800 is showing signs of working along with his NEW HIP!! We walked around the block today with our beloved dog, Donnie (Don Juan), things are really looking up for a lot of us!! Diane

Thank you Diane, so happy to hear that Pete is ableto walk around the block this soon after hip replacements, I am totally amazed. He had to feel so good being able to do that.

Unless I have an unseen setback, and I can't think why, my path since the catheter was taken Monday is moving fast toward being dry or mostly dry. When Pete had one for a year, how often did they have to replace it, like once a month? And I am assuming it was a Foley type catheter like all 5 of mine were? Just curious.

Give my best to your husband for me.

I'm hopeful that your catheter ordeal is now over, you have really been through it. Now on with healing, you deserve it.

David, Pete had the catheter in for a few weeks at a time, then he would go and have a cystoscopy or it would close up....The fistula operation was the problem that he had to keep it in for so long. They wanted to make sure it would not open up again. In the meantime, the catheter kept clogging up with actual pieces of radiation damage..scar tissue.....You could see it in the catheter... One doctor said that he should just have a permanent ostomy put in through his navel, and not worry about the bag.....But Pete did not want to go that route, and I wanted to do whatever he wanted... An unbelievable year, I don't know how we got through it. But it is amazing what you start to believe is normal and you just accept it and go on.... Like you did! You are on your way to complete healing now.....and you really help so many with your words. Diane

I still say, without a doubt, Pete's ordeal with that, Diane, far exceeds any annoyance or discomfort and pain I ever dealt with. You are right, after my two big blockages, I knew there were much worse and painful things then the catheter itself. I guess like they say, be careful what you wish for. So happy that Pete is doing that well, I am most impressed, and happy for the two of you.

Having followed your story for some time, all I can say is it's about time! Congrat's on finally kicking the tube! I hope it stays away for good!
