Hummm noone here hs used them I thought they were one of the supposed to be "best" for Pc ???

Hang in there cvc...There are quite a few that I have seen going there over the time I have been here. divo is one I know for sure. But I have seen others as well. Anyone using the MSK initials has been there.

Hi cvc, We go to an oncologist at MSK, also had several different surgerys there: Salvage prostectomy, fistula, AUS800, ....What do you want to know about? Diane

Hi cvc.

I've been speaking with James Eastham, MD, the Urology Chief of MSK for the past few weeks. I'm trying to decide whether to have my surgery up there. What about Sloan do you want to know? My daughter-in-law is a nurse there in Urology.

Peter Scardino wrote a book about Prostate Cancer, and he was in charge of the Urology Dept. I think Eastham is now according to Godfather....Dr. Eastham operated on Pete. We have Dr. Basch for oncologist. They both said that salvage surgery would the appropriate choice for Pete. ? The only thing I can tell you: it is like a factory, it may be very good , but you are a number..no doubt...We waited hours for every appointment. We live in CT and either took the train in or drove. The effort to get there alone is difficult, and then you wait and wait. We did have good doctors, but I believe there are good doctors everywhere. You just have to look around.... Diane

I agree with Tony, MSK truly is a great cancer research and treatment facility. Personally, I will go to a robotic specialist, not MSK, if I choose robotic over open. The skill of the surgeon, the number of previous robotic surgeries, etc and not the facility itself, drives my decision. For open, however, it's MSK for me.

Tony (Godfather), noticed on your stats you are showing aprostate size of 22.6 cc, is that correct? If that is the case, from what I've read and researched, would make it easier with a robotic with a small or smallish prostate. Some of the men with really large enlarged ones make them better candidates for open. Just a thought. Mine was 42 I believe, which my dr. said was average, but on the small side for 56 years old.

I would have gone to MSk if my insurance had covered it. They are a class act and were unbelievably thorough, kind, concerned and, in my experience of talking to four surgeons, instilled an enormous amount of security. BUT, they admit they are conservative and said their DaVinci machine was gathering dust. They certainly do the DaVinci, but have not jumped on board as some hospitals have. My wife liked the free refreshments while she waited for me!

I ended up going to Mt Sinai, truly a huge city hospital, but got the concierge floor as Dr. Samadi recommended. THAT was worth the extra money. The care for my wife was unreal. Tea in the library, anything she wanted, fresh flowers everywhere. It was like a luxury hotel with hospital beds. My care was fine...I don't remember it much.

But, yes...sorry to digress....MSK is an outstanding place to go. Their surgery track record is great - no matter what method is used. You will be in the best of hands. It's a class act.

The "Textbook of Genitourinary Oncology" was writtin by Scardino....with my doctor as well Nick Vogelzang. (three other well known oncologists). This publication is used in many universities. It is a top publication in the field.

I used MSK and I was very happy with the care I got from the Dr Bertrand D. Guillonneau, and the facility. He does laproscopic RP.

I had a salvage prostatectomy at MSK in March 2008. I can't say enough good things about the doctor, staff, everyone.

For robotic surgery you must consult with Dr. Vipul Patel in Orlando FL. Dr. Patel has done more robotic protate surgeries than anyone else in the world. The week I had mine done he performed 24 surgeries. My out come is outstanding. The good news is that you are treated like royalty by his entire team. Also Florida Hospital is not far from Disney World and all the resort attractions. Plus lots of very reasonable motels/hotels to stay in. No ugly big city to deal with.
