Pads and how can you tell when they are saturated?

I am having trouble telling when the Depends "Guards" pads are saturated and need changing.  I am 8 weeks post op and I change the pad two or three times a day mainly because I can't tell if they are wet or not without peeling it off the tighty whiteys to see if they are heavy with urine.  usually the pads are about the same weight as a new one when I peel them off.  I still have a little bit of stress incontinence.  too bad Depends does not make the blue insert change color when they are exposed to a certain amount of urine.

..you're doing great if that's the problem you have at hand.....there is no mistake when those things are full and need changin'.....Sounds like you're doing real well on the IC front.

Sounds like you are doing great. When you change one, add water to the one you are going to throw away and see how heavy it is. That will tell you if you are leaking a lot.

Heck, Mine felt like a brick when they were full. Either that or I knew when my pants were wet.....lol.......had to laugh to keep from cryin!

I hate to ask, but "why are you changing the pad". If you are just squirting a little when you get up out of a chair or when you lift something, there may not be enough to be concerned about.

I'd have to say you're doing tremendous.

Sounds like you are doing great after surgery, I am also being treated at UCSF by DR. Gotschalk and DR. Greene who is part of DR. Carroll's group, I am schedule to have gold markers implanted on 02/23/08 then go with IMRT and possibly follow up with cyberknife still waiting on insurance approval for cyberknife procedure. Can you enlighten me on the quality of treatment you received at UCSF.

Hi

You can tell if you are leaking a lot by how heavy they feel.  If they don't feel heavy after wearing one all day, you are making progress.  I started out with a new one to go to work,  changed it when I went to bed and put a new one one in the morning, starting the process all over.

It's really easy to tell if saturated or not based on the weight of the pad. Even though I can probably go one pad for more than a day ( using only to catch the "dribble"), I change every night for sanitary purposes. Like you said, the one pad that I used for 24 hours seems like the same weight. By the way, I stopped using the Depends "guards". They're too thick. I am using my wife's pad. More comfortable and it's thin.

I would say the quality of treatment at UCSF was excellent.  for the most part the nurses and all the staff were very caring and concerned for my well being.  the rooms that I saw were mostly single rooms.  about the only problem I had was that a lot of the staff were asian with heavy accents which made it hard to understand some of them.

Heck, When my get too heavy they tend to slip down my pant leg and out on the floor. :)
