Sorry to hear your husband isn't feeling better, but hoping your vacation is everything you both need. Keep us close.

Make sure your husband does weight training at least 3 days per week and exercises, like walking another three days. This is important to reduce bone and muscle mass due to the drugs and will reduce his fatigue. Also take calcium citrate for the bone strenth.
You said he was on Lupron. Ask your doctor about adding Casodex and proscar as this improves the effectiveness of the Lupron and adds few side affects.
There are a lot of articles on the PCRI.org web site as to the side affects of hormone treatment and some of the things you can do to alieviate them.

J-mae, hang in there....and here too! turn   I'm not a doctor, but from the sound of things you might opt for another opinion about treatment. idea    Also the open, honest communication with your partner. smilewinkgrin

Had a wonderful time on our vacation. Traveled the Sea to Sky Highway to Whistler, BC to see preparations for the Olympics. Doctor didn't phone with any news before we left, so we assumed everything was fine...WASN'T...rec'd bad news - husband's PSA is now 10.4 & he will be beginning radiation treatments. Doctor has ordered new bone & cat scans.

No good news to report, husband's PSA doubled again to 19.0. The doctor forgot to give us the bone scan disc for the radiation expert, but were told that the cancer has left the prostate bed & is now in the bones. "Has anyone ever told you, you have bone cancer?" So that is now confirmed. (Doctors sure don't like to say too too much, do they?) My husband's keeps getting asked if he is in any kind of pain or if he is in "agony".
No pain yet, not at all. Should we be expecting some. Our family doctor had him on water pills for high blood pressure for a month with no results so switched him to 80 mg Micardis daily. Visits to the family doctor are getting more frequent, while visits to the urologist get less frequent. Back to the radiation expert June 2 09 for more consultation (have to deliver the bone scan disc).
Questions: Please help
1. Is treating the cancer also treating the patient? quality of life vs quantity of life?
2. Does prostate cancer also migrate to the parotid gland? Hubby having trouble with the "mumps gland" on his lift side? doctor told him to "suck a lemon". Also, glands in armpits are swollen & red.
3. Are sore testicles that keep you awake at night related to the prostate cancer?
4. Any one else experience excessive body odour with this kind of cancer?
5. Will he be told when to get "his affairs in order"?
6. How long must I live in a nightmare?
7. With this isotope problem, will radiation still be an option?

I so know the feeling - you should both put your affairs in order - because even without cancer something could happen and having things organized will make it easier.
My 51 year old hubby started Chemo a few weeks ago - we were not even given the option of surgery or radiation because he already had mets to the bones in August of 2008 and the hormones kept things at bay for at least eight months and we were able to take a trip for my parents 50th anniversary.
Aleve keeps most of my hubby's bone pain down to a low roar but they gave him a Rx for morphine which I think he should take at night to get a full nights sleep. He is still working but its a non physical job.
Your Hubbys PSA is rising so he is probably on the HRPC track now which is a whole other kettle of fish.

Do you have a cancer oncologist? SCAA has been really great to us and it sounds like you might be in the area.
