I have never heard of anyone getting benefits after Pca treatment.  If you suffer from long term treatment that precludes your going to work, I would think that it should.

Disability benefits are paid when the individual is unable to work due to their physical problems.  I would think a case could be made for a cancer disability.

Medicare does cover implants... they did mine.  Also, the month I turned 65, Medicare also covered my heart stints.  Medicare plus your suplement insurance should cover nearly 100%.  I actually did receive a bill for $250, but I appealed and they put it back in the "mill", & have not heard any more for about two months.  But I have never heard of Social Security itself covering anything, however.  Don't know about disability.

I have been turned down twice, I was told for my third appeal that it would be 20 months before I see anyone. So I stated complaining, Then they changed it to August of 2009, still not soon enough for my condition <T4> stage. So I wrote my senator, she got a hold of the SSA and I got a letter back last Thursday, saying based on my statement we maybe able to issue a favorable decision without a hearing.  But I also have Macular Degeration <blind in one eye trying to keep the left eye, no cure for this also>. My advice, keep trying they always turn ya down twice. It is  real pain in the A%%.

Update: I got my dissabiluity and s.s., it pays to contact yout senater. It took only two months after contacting the senator.

Yes Social Security (Medicare) after age 65+ will pay fully for a variety of medical needs involving PCa.  What we were talking about is "Social Security Disability payments".  This is the payment prior to age 65 (sometimes 63+) of regular social security income.  This requires the difficult "proof" that you are partially or fully disabled. That means unable to work at a job due to your physical problems.  I was able to collect full disability benefits starting at age 58.  It requires a very high proof of disability, that as far as I know does not include recovery from prostate cancer. I would rather have gone to work every day.

Thank you all for your responses. I am 54 and not near medicare eligibility and was looking for the supplement of disability. I have been to the SS website and definition of disability is not clearly stated, What is stated in 13.02 is Pca treatment failure of Hormonal therapy, is the criteria for recieving benefits.

My details are added now. I was a little sheepish asking about the SS benefits, But I am looking at retirement and all that goes with that issue. It is very hard to leave a job these days.

I know that cancer is a disability, but not sure the best way to fight with SSA. My oncologist knew I wasn't working when after my surgery I was in need of his services. He told me that cancer is a disability and can be compensated by the government while I wasn't working. It did not matter why I wasn't working. To put it to rest, I was hired a few weeks later by a group of people with huge hearts. I still work for them.

I will be following this post closely as I may or may not be failing hormone therapy. I have been pulled off of the casodex and possibly the lupron as my psa has been doubling every three months. I wish to work at least a year but would prefer to stay working as it would mean that my health is still good Todd

Yes, Medicare A & B pretty much cover 80% and my insurance took care of the rest.
