Dear duckfan:

Personally, I had no burning feeling as you describe it.  The literature that I read before my procedure stated that I might expect some burning upon urination but I don't recall commentary about "burning in the prostate area".  I suggest you call your radiation doc and describe this in great detail so he/she can give you some feedback.

Glad all else is going well.

Is great news, you have come such a long way. Now it is time to heal up...I am sure that others will answer your question. I am not a good poster on seed implants. I came across your page on the Infolink and it made me think about you guys. Ppeace, and again happy healing!

Hi Julie

I was interested in your comment about fatigue as I had LDR implants on 11/3. While things have generally been fine, I am feeling very tired. I took two weeks off work, a lot of which I spent asleep (rather than catching up on good books/films as I had hoped:-).

Having come back to work (I teach at a University) last week I am really struggling with tiredness, which may be a result of my commute (35 miles/1 hour drive each way), family life (3 kids, aged 14/12/10), stress (I tend to bottle things), or ... PCa/Brachytherapy/alphablockers - who know?

I would appreciate feedback on how you (or others - not sure where this post is going to end up) found this, how you dealt with it and how long it went on for.

Saw Julie's thread and remembered to update Mr. Duck.  It's been six weeks and I'm thankful to say that he's had NO problems.  No incontience, a little burning, he passed one seed that was a little uncomfortable was somewhat fatigued but that could be due to his MS.  He hasn't noticed any effects from food.  He's started having his one beer a day and that doesn't bother him.  He's really cut down on caffine because it seems if he drinks more than one cup of coffee with caffine he's going every few minutes. 

Now if it just takes the cancer away yeah   All in all it's been probably the easiest treatment he's gone through in a while.  The volumne study was not fun but the seeding itself was a breeze and this is a man that has MS health issues. 

I have to credit the Lord for all the blessings.

Mrs. Duck, was so happy to read about this upbeat update on your hubby. I hope he continues to do so well, please keep us all posted.

Fatigue Question (and Answer) ...

My husband works in construction and around heavy equipment so it was all or nothing for him so he was fortunate enough to have a couple of months off.  Some days he needed a nap, others not so much but trying to get him to actually nap was a source of contention.  I swear the man is the Energizer Bunny and he would not listen to reason - until reason sat his sorry butt down - like it or not.

Only you can determine how far to push things - if it means going to bed a little earliler then do it (and don't feel guilty about it).  For me, I was thankful when he was in bed - I knew his body was healing and it gave me a chance to actually go about things (like laundry which is a never ending story in a house full of boys) without having to worry about him.

Don't push yourself, it may seem like a prolonged process but trust me, it's worth it - he's back to his normal crazy self, coaching soccer and running around with the boys so prolonged or not I'll take it ...

Update.

   Mr. Duck went in for his check-up this last Monday and had his first PSA blood test.  It came back 0.96.  He had brachytherapy done in March.

   He also had a Cat Scan but we don't have the results back yet.  The only problem he's having is when he has to go  he really has to go.  The Dr. says that's normal.

   Everything else is back to normal too.  Erection and ejaculation is ok although he said upon ejaculation it burned a little. 

   For a person with MS he's doing quite well.  He's pleased he went this route.

Hi Mrs. Duck:

The PSA results are excellent...I'm sure you are both very pleased.  Sounds like everything is going great.  The urgency is normal and affects each man idfferently but it should lessen in time.

Mr. Duck's update.

    He had brachytherapy last March and is doing so well.  He goes in for a check-up in January so we'll pray for a low PSA.  He hasn't had any side effects everything is working and I mean everything! 

    We had one scare.  He had a MRI on his lower back because of continuing back pain.  He has MS and Degenerative Disk Disease.  Anyway, the MRI showed a suspicious spot  and because of his PCa they wanted to further test.  He had a bone scan and it was nothing.  We sort of held our breath but it turned out good.

     Brachytherapy was sure a good choice for him.

Thanks a lot for your posts. I have chosen BT (along with later IGRT) for my treatment as well. I go tomorrow for the ultrasound study and expect the implants to be done in late Nov. or early Dec. The individuals you have heard  from so far were influential in helping me make my decision. It is very helpful to hear about your husband's experiences as it helps me (and others) manage our expectations.

For what it is worth, I have yet to talk to a BT patient either personally or on this site that has not been satisfied with their choice. As pointed out, there may be some long term effects but the ones I have heard about are not what I consider to be serious. Glad to hear he contnues to do well.

Thanks for posting the update. Was wondering how your dear husband was doing. Glad it has been going so well for the two of you.
Yeah, bet that MRI put some scare until it was resolved, glad it turned out to be nothing related to PC.

I hope he continues to do well in the months and years ahead.

Update....

    Mr. Duck had a PSA Test done on January 13, 2010 and it was 0.47.  Mr. Duck currently doesn't have a primary care physician so he had his neurologist, who is his MS doc, order the PSA test.  He's going to the VA for his care and they currently have a shortage of doctors in our area. He's waiting for the VA to schedule him as soon as a doc is available.   Anyway, that said, his PSA looks good for now so onward and upward.

    He's had absolutely NO effects from the brachytherapy at least none he willing to share with me and we've been married 37 years.  No doubt things do feel a bit different but everything works well. 

    Brachytherapy was, for him, a great way to go.

Mrs. Duck, that was a great update on your husband. I am glad he is added to a growing list of men here that have been through Seeding. It will help show others in the early stages that it is a viable and good choice if one meets the criteria. Glad he is doing so well.
