Each little part of the puzzle that falls into place is helpful. For me, The worst aspect of this whole process was not having a plan or knowing what to do. Once I had all the information, I was able to make a decision - which was surprisingly easy to make. Once that was done, there was at least a sense of action, or control. Keep busy as this unfolds for you. keep working out, keep playing, keep working. email me or any of the other guys who have offered. Perhaps this will all end up being nothing. If that happens, great. you've made some new friends. If it is something, great. You have a support group!

Jon, Well I guess you'll find out whats up from the biopsy, but I'm unclear on when you got the 6.0 psa and when your urologist saw you. Did you take the 6.0 psa test prior to your appointment with the urologist, or right after his examination, or some days later? Any comment from him about how your prostate felt?
Did he base his suggestion on you having a biopsy from his exam that day or only after the 6.0 test result came back? Any mention as to why he didn't suspect prostatitis might be the cause of such a "sudden" jump in less than a month? Then again, he's the one who felt the prostate.

I had my biopsy this morning, it went well.  It was relatively painless, I felt a little pressure and it was weird but only the last 3 samples caused any discomfort and it was relatively minor.  Now I have the bleeding to deal with.  He told me what to expect but I urinated for the first time and was shocked how red it was, but he told me to expect that.  He said my prostate looked fine, it is not enlarged and he didn't see anything suspicious. Of course that doesn't rule out Pca but its good to hear.  Now I wait two weeks for my appointment to find out the results. 

Again, I thank everyone on here for your encouragement.  It has made a real difference.

Hello Jon and good luck on your biopsy results. Bleeding after the biopsy is normal, but you might want to try drinking a lot of fluids to flush out whatever is in there. Let's hope that what you have is just an infection of the prostate that can be treated with antibiotics. If it does turn out to be cancer, keep in mind that the absolute best thing that can happen is for it to be detected early on. That gives you the maximum flexibility in deciding what treatment choice is best for you. Also, take the time now to do some reading up on what the prostate is and how it works. The best way to handle fear of the unknown is with information, and there is plenty of that available. I recommend Dr. Scardino's book (see below) as it talks about prostatitis, BPH (enlarged prostate) and prostate cancer, all three of which can affect your PSA level. Whatever the results, remember you have friends here.

Franklen, I'm sorry I didn't see your post earlier. The urologist had my PSA rechecked since it had risen from the prior year. His DRE revealed nothing unusual and the follow up PSA was about a week after his exam. I had no symptoms of prostatis - at least from what I know.

Jon, did you say two weeks to get the results? That's criminal. I'd be on the phone Tuesday and every day afterward until you get some satisfaction. I don't think there's any reason to wait two weeks. If they keep putting you off, then I would think it is time to see another Uro. I had my biopsy on a Wednesday and I had a call from the doc the following Monday at noon. Good luck and hope everything turns out alright.
