psa 17.6 prostate removed da-vice   3 months after 1.2 .... 2 months latter 2.3 just finshed radiation,, 36 treatments...go see urologist july 31 on friday      monday before   get psa test   gleason score 7 some parts 8 stage t3c   im 55  ill put in pathology report latter

I can understand your anxiety. First Your Uro did right in salvaging with the radiation as soon as he/she did. At this point, post salvage, try to relax a little before you get your psa test in a few weeks. And, don't be alarmed if it hasn't gone down too much because reaching nadir after radiation takes a while. Best of luck to you!

General comment to the board....for me, waiting until the next psa has, in itself, an anxiety factor; but waiting for the actual RESULTS is REAL ANXIETY. And I absolutely hate when you give the lab the instructions (from the doctor) to have the results go to him and the patient and the patient never gets the results. Instead another anxiety results when you have to phone the Uro and they say "we'll get back to you." Yuk!

 

Sometimes you can find places that give psa testing either free or very cheap, or consider paying somewhere else that will give you the results (asap). In Rochester Hills, Michigan (Crittenton Hosp.) has walk-in psa testing(anybody) for $15 and results are mailed to you and your doc. You receive them in like 3 days after testing, this is a beautiful thing here and although I have insurance and my onco-doc gets my psa tests etc. done, why wait for numbers, if you can go and find out asap, money is not a big deal at $15.  Sometimes I would get tested 2wks, 4 wks and over 8-10 months straight so I know the trend. Especially was useful when I went off all meds and monitored for 2yrs. of bliss without the ADT drugs...life was much better without those side effects.

Anyway maybe you can find other avenues to get test results faster.

I am no doctor but based on what you have shared I see no reason why you can't be on hormone therapy. I am coming off of Lupron and Casodex after two successful years as a gleason 9 and lymph node involvement.

Remember that your prostate is gone and so much of what you report is sitting in some laboratory -- not in you. There is a significant chance that you are cured, and, if not, good options still remain. Clearly yours has not been the easiest journey but bro Dale still expects to be collecting zero club dues from you. We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers

Have you started hormone therapy yet? If not, this test will likely steer you that way. But I have been on it two years and I have very similar numbers after surgery. I have been doing very well, and there is no reason to believe that you won't. Hang in there, let us know what the results are...
