ttrapski,
There are several places in Canada that do the daVinci and several very well qualified doctors doing it. B.C. Health, or whatever it's called, will. I'm sure, cover the cost just as if you did it at home. So, you'll have a few days of hotel and you'll need some Aeroplan points, or a good Westjet sale, and off you go.
I'm in Winnipeg, I did mine in Edmonton at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. The afternoon of the surgery I went for a good walk, the next morning, after a shower, I went down to the Tim Hortons for coffee and that afternoon the doctor discharged me. I spent five days at the Ramada ($89 hospital rate) and then flew home on Westjet.
Just because daVInci isn't offered in your community doesn't mean you can't have it, and have it all paid for, except the travel. I suggest you check it out.
One great bonus is recovering in a hotel. Clean towels, room service, a coffee shop, a news stand, nice places outside to go for a walk, and best of all there are no friends and relatives showing up at the door for a visit --- no need to entertain when the last thing you want to do when you're getting the hang of a catheter is talk to folk from the office, chuch, or whatever.
Good luck, Sheldon AKA Sleepless
