AUS implantees - please post with your current info

Gentlemen:

I am seeking posts from those of you who have had AUS implants 2 or more years ago.  I have seen posts from various people (KW, Gene214, CowboyBob, Divo, Berb, JerryV, and Salty Clark) who have undergone AUS implants, and all were enthusiatic about the device and their results.  But, people are usually ecstatic when they receive delivery of a new car.  After a while, some develop a different perspective.

I was wondering how everyone who had an AUS implant currently feels about his device.  Still happy? Any complaints?  Any complications?  Any warnings?

I currently am almost 11 mos. post-op per daVinci robotic surgery.  Total incontincence; complete ED.  I am contemplating an AUS implant, but I don't want to jump into it like I did with the daVinci surgery.  The reasons for prompt action are not as compelling.

Currently, my four concerns about the AUS implantation are:  (1) development of necrotic tissue under the cuff; (2) erosion of the tissue adjacent to the cuff; (3) migration of the device within my body, especially in view of my currently active lifestyle; and (4) infection.  Should I have additional concerns? 

Any information which you could share based upon your experiences would be greatly appreciated.

RHC, I am right at a year of having my AUS. I am still very pleased with it. As far as your active lifestyle, you may still have some drips or dribbles. I still wear a regular Depends Guard when playing golf. But one pad will easily last 18 holes. Before the AUS I was soaking a pad every 4 or 5 holes. I really believe if you find the right doctor that does the AUS on a weekly if not almost daily basis (such as the doctor I used) you would most likely not have any problems at all. Like you, I also wanted to try everything I could before having all the "plumbing" installed. But, now that I did I kinda wish I would have done it sooner.

RHC,

I have had both AUS and IPP implanted for exactly 15 months.  No sign of any problem yet.  That's not to say I will not have any, but at the very least, I've had relative dryness and many, many intimate experiences with my wife for these past 15 months.  Like KW, although I did wait 18 months post surgery, hindsight:  I wish I'd done it sooner.  I now wear one small panti-liner per day.  I used to wear two of them, laying side-by-side, but I bought some briefs with a good pouch which keeps my thingy from flopping around and moving off the pad.  So, in my opinion:  It can't get any better'n that for a guy in my condition.  But like KW said, find you a good, very experienced implant surgeon, like he and I did.

Hi  This is Jerry V and my AUS doesn't work as well as some of the guys.  The doctor told me he did Salvage Urinary Surgery on me because of the condition I was in after two very painful installations done by a hack.  I am very happy with what I do ,however, and the doctor who performed this operation has done a thousand  operations on men who some other doctor screwed up.  I do wear a pad because I could stand there all day to have it stop leaking but I get by with one pad on most days and I am very greatful to Dr  Elliott for giving me a new life which is mostly dry.

 Hope all you guys are doing well and also you must remember that I am ninety years old and I feel great.

I thank each of you for replying.  For those of you who have found relief through the AUS, I wish you continued success.

JerryV - I am a little concerned about your lack of ecstacy with your AUS, especially since it was installed by Dr. Dan Sullivan of Mayo.  It is my current intention to go to Mayo in Jacksonville, Fl. for a second opinion and/or evaluation, and to go to Mayo in Rochester, Mn. with Dr. Dan Sullivan, if that is their recommendation.

Hi..Salty here...long time since I posted anything on this forum mainly cause not much to report.  It has been 7 months since my AUS activation and it still works fine.  Oh, its not in the category of 100% absolute dry but very near to it.  I still get along without any pads at all...only time I get any leakage at all is when coughing hard or sneezing.  I just have gone about my business of trying to put my life back together after the bout with the cancer.  So far, doing just fine with PSA undetectable and the problems of incontinence and ED a thing of the past.

I went to Dr Dan Elliott at Mayo and he is the best  for my condition because his job is to take cases like mine.  You can't make a silk purse out of  a sows ear.  There are no better at what he does than Dr Dan Elliott.  Say hello from me when you go there.
