I finished #17 of 28 radiation treatments today.  Afterward I met with the doc and told him again how pleased I am with the minimal side effects I have experienced.  He said that I have been very fortunate.

We then talked about what the next step will be.  He indicated that rather than doing the seed implants, he will probably want to do the High Dose Rate Brachytherapy.

My question......does anyone here have experience with this approach?

Bill, glad you are getting through your RT without too bad a side effects, it is that way with many people. You need to talk to Bro. Tudock and JohnT in particular about the seeding.

I had seed implants along with IMRT. I don't know that much about HDR Brachy, only that the procedure takes a little longer. I think either would be effective. have no side affects from the treatments and would definately go that way again. Be sure you get a doctor that is experienced with either procedure as experience and skill will definately affect outcome. With a Gleason 5 it's no wonder that your doctor recommended HT; please keep an open mind knowing that you have a good chance of having a reoccurrance and HT will be the normal next step.

I had HDR in May and June, 2009. Had no side affects from the treatments and would definitely go that way again.  I also under went 28 radiation treatments. My Uro & Rad Onc worked together on the treatment.   There were two different HDRs, two weeks apart. On the second, they looked at the prostate again and redosed.  I would be at the Clinic at 6:30 in the morning and home by 1:00. Resumed regular routine the next day.
