Howdy Joe S,
I started on injections just a couple of months ago. My Uro. Doc. has a compound pharmacy mix the 3 drugs, Phentalamine/Prostagladin-E/Lidocaine for me. For $60, they send me home with a 5 cc vial of the pre-mixed medication, 10 ea. Insulin Syringes with 1/2" 30 Gauge needles. I learned from others on this forum that it works best to use the VED pump for a short time prior to injecting the medication. This action will increase venous blood pooling into the tissues, and actually help in getting the medication in the correct area of penile tissues. When my Uro. taught me the technique, they said it was important to push the needle in deep enough to dimple the skin, thereby insuring that the needle was in the correct spot. Then, you pull back on the plunger while maintaining the pressure on the syringe, to pull blood back into the syringe. When you see blood, you are in the correct spaces of the tissues. You maintain enough pressure to insure the dimple effect, and then depress the plunger to administer the medication. Having been a Corpsman in the US Navy years ago, and working in medicine and surgery for the past 30 + years, it is not difficult for me to administer the injection. However, I understand your feelings about injecting yourself. Once you get past that, it really is quite easy, and not all that uncomfortable. And the results are well worth the effort. Most guys think that injecting into the penis has got to be extremely painful, but actually it is no different than a slight stinging sensation. After injecting, massage the penis to help distribute the medication around. I use an mild restrictor band around the base of the penis to prevent venous leakage of the medication, and that really seems to help also.
If you have a partner, maybe they can perform the injection, until you get used to having it done.
Best of luck and don't give up, you'll be glad that you "stuck" with it !
