I just read the interesting article results posted by Modelshipwrght. It is for Robotic surgery only and shows the percentage of men who do not wear pads at 1, 3, 6, 12, 24 months. The numbers were depressingly low (in my opinion).
I am wondering how this compares with open surgery.
This poll will be an unscientific study to get an idea if there is a difference between open and robotic. Granted we are not sorting for pathology. We will go by the strict definition of Pad Free ie. Did you put on a pad when you left the house in the morning? At 3 months and at one year.

DaVinci here and one of those fortunate people to not need pads after the first 4 months. Can't say I never lose a drop, but not a problem.

I had the 'open' and  was dry after <3 month. Occasionally "moisture" occurred for another month or so.

da Vinci --- dry from day since catheter removal - no pads --wanna buy some, stocked up early.

3 weeks out and I'm down to a lite pad per day.So far so good, do the kegil thing everyday.

I went pad free at one month, but I also had the prostrate cooling during surgery which is suppose to cut the time 1/2. Maybe it works

Hey Worried,

Just voted. I consider myself very lucky. I had full bladder control 48 hours after catheter removal...even though I snuck a pad in off/on for about a week...not a drop on those.  I had open. IMHO, I think part of the reason might have been that I had a pretty good level of fitness. However, didn't help ED.

This is turning out to be interesting data! It would be great if everyone entered their info.
It certainly won't help us but it might prove useful interesting for the ones follow the PCa highway.

Personally, I'm interested to see how many guys improve after 3 months. It gives me hope.

I will be at 3 months on Nov. 19th. I still use an ultra light pad when I go on business calls for just in case scenarios. I worked out on the elliptical last night for half an hour with no pad and didn't leak at all. I go padless on the weekends and every night.

I don't drink very often but spent the last weekend in Mexico down by Cancun. One night of way to many crown and cokes allowed for one occasion of leaking. I can live with that seeing as several other guys had similar mistakes and they didn't have my built in excuse!

I have had an odd pad situation lately. The first month on the SP catheter, not a drop would make its way through the urethra and penis, no matter how bad it hurt, you only hope and pray it will relieve the pressure. When my uro changed out the SP at the one month mark just for sanitary reason, now when I have a bad spasms, which can be often most days, urine does get under the balloon, which now sits up higher in the bladder than a foley, and I will get pressure relief all the way through my penis.

So I am in the odd posiition of having a catheter in place, though it is an SP not a Foley, and sometimes will wear a depends pad in case I get some leaking from the bladder spasms. Kind of sucks, one should only have to endure one or the other, not both.

Trust me, I wear black pants almost anytime I am out in public for obvious reasons.

I'm two months opost op and I am wearing two underpants (no pad) for the heck of it. I really don't think I need to do it, but it feels good. After daVinci, my wife stocked up on pads, so I used one each day and one at night for the first week because I thought I had to, but there really was not much need. At two weeks I went to one pad for day and night. Then one pad for two days and nights; I know I'm cheap. After about 6 weeks I just use underpants, two of them.

Btw, I think if a guy has had success with this, he will be more apt to respond and vote. Just saying....

Hi Jeff Just voted I was out yesterday as you know I am very interested in the results at the moment on the 3 month poll it seems to show that open have the better results of continence as you may remember I never even brought any male pads and just used half a baby diaper for the first week

No pad in underpants at 3 months but one in my jacket pocket, and it's getting a bit battered. (As worn out as a teenager's unused condom.)

Hi Jeff,

I am sorry that I can't answer the poll as I am just 7 weeks out of surgery. I posted LFPF as it was an interesting and somewhat depressing report. My Leak and Pad status is better than a lot of folks and for that I am thankful. One pad per day is not the end of the workd and I think I am still improving.

Can't wait to see the result of your poll stats.

Hi There - just joined!  Glad to be here (not really) :-)

I had robotic surgery and am still wearing 3 - 4 pads daily at 5 months.  I have just finshed radiation, and am told that this is partly responsible for my slow recovery.

Welcome to the club- I think... ;-) You will find there are a great bunch of guys here who really care. They certainly helped me during my darkest days.
I read the last line of your signature and thought "lucky guy indeed." My PSA was high too and also found during a routine physical. My biopsy was 7/12 hot with up to 70%.
I think you and I are going to be comparing notes for a long time.

Jeff, I just voted. I used a pad for about 4 months. I consider myself dry even though and Occasionally have few stress drops when I play golf. I can't seem to shake those drops off so I ware a thin liner just in case.

I had both surgeries but I was very lucky and never leaked from the first day except for a sneeze.

I'm not sure it makes much or any difference to the usefullness of these statistics, (and I think they are useful) it's just that I was thinking about the "when you left the house" part of the question. For in my own situation I was able to stop wearing pads while at home long before I was able to risk leaving home without one. It's that big difference between knowing the nearest bathroom is less than a minute away and being somewhere where you may have no idea where there is a bathroom.

Also there is another thread where someone has recently noted the latest figures that say that only 15% of people are having open surgery these days, which may start making it difficult to interpret the statistics.

The key thing is that it is clear that the Majority of us (about 75% on today's figures) are padless at three months regardless of whether we've been opened or Da Vincied, and that has to be good to know.
