Tony,
Thank you.
One thing I've learned well on this forum is that a guy has to be sure of his choice. Once the choice is made there really aren't any do overs. I have yet to read a regret in here; on the contrary many fellows are very passionate about their choices.
I have a few regrets in my life, but my PCa treatment is not one of them.
A lot of factors went into my decision that made everything happen so quickly.
I was once married to a very good research scientist with a background in teratogens/mutagens/carcinogens. Then I married a surgical nurse working at a uro office. I saw the back side of the Prima Donna doc thing and knew I didn't want one of those guys. I suspected PCa prior to dx and was prepared to hear it.
I'd had 2 major surgeries prior to this so I was prepared for that ordeal.
My wife dragged me in for screening during PCa Awareness week at her clinic, so just getting the dx at the time was kismet. So was the opening of the surgical suite. The way things were lining up I felt I was given a map pointing to surgery ASAP.
And the doc? Like I said, good CV: Baylor MD, U Chicago MIS residency, U Pitt Urology Fellow, plus additional surgical/robotl training at Ohio State and Cleveland Clinic. Published researcher. I knew that about him three years ago.
I got "the pitch" from my wife after the doc phone with my biopsy but before my consult the first thing the next morning. Meeting the doc sealed the deal. Not only was he young, good and experienced -- he was humble. Those are the guys I want working on me.
Yes, the wife had very strong opinions on treatment, and with PCa treatment side-effects she has a stake and a vote, too.
Clinic is ten blocks one way from my home, hospital ten blocks in another direction. Made things easy.
