Worry about PSA results

Great for you London........a most excellent Christmas present. Just shows the benefit of getting a copy of the results yourself and seeing it in black and white.

This Forum is so useful that you'd actually got to the bottom of your worry before I could get to a computer where I could log on and reply.



This thread should serve as an example to all PCa patients thatyou need to see your results on paper. There was another thread a few weeks ago where someone had got told about a "0.01" on the phone and misheard it as "0.1"



Our brains don't work as clearly as they could when dealing with cancer, so it is very common not to take in what people are saying to you.



My doc told me right at the beginning that they never tell patients any results over the phone. I was also given print-outs of most of my tests results before I asked for them. (I was even given a copy of the letter that the urologist sent to my GP.)

And my GP even turned the screen round on her computer so I could read everything that she was reading.



I did however forget to ask for the printed copy of my path report, the doc put it down then put it in is pocket so he could remove my catheter (which was done on the same visit) then afterwards I forgot about it as I was concentrating 100% on bladder, pee and pads. But when I phoned the department and asked for it they sent to me immediately even though I was actually going to the hospital the next day.

(Luckily I had heard the same numbers as were on the report , but things were explained to me really well that day, they even drew a diagram for me of where the cancer had been. )



Your PSA levels mean you have joined the zero club

well I am deeply grateful to you all, especially you squirm. I was on the doorstep of the hospital first thing this morning and believe it or not they confirmed that the doc read out the results wrongly it is 0.07 then rose to 0.09.
In terms of the usefullness of tjis forum, had I not asked the question and had so many very useful replies I would have worried myself sick over and beyond the festive period. Once again many thanks to you all. Happy christmas.
