Do any of you have that? I am only 2 weeks post op., but it is annoying. It hurts when I urinate and also with bms.

I assume this is pretty normal but I figured I'd check with you folks

Sounds normal. If you are too uncomfortable call the Dr.s office and speak to the nurse.

Have u ever had hemmorhoids ? Sometimes the stress of post op bm's etc. van aggravate them.

I had rectal pain 4 weeks into imrt treatment feb/09.  The oncologist first thought it was hemrhoids only to findout from my primary doctor i had proctitus.  I still has spasms, pain and bowel problems but not as intensed but still being treated for symptoms.  Hope this is not the case for u.

Mel, I also did experience a similar discomfort for a couple of weeks post-op. I wouldn't have described mine as a "pain", but a little more like an "ache." Did feel it more sharply during a pee or poop, but kind of a low-level ache ongoing for a couple weeks. I do recall asking my doctor about it, and him saying it was typical and goes away in a few weeks (which mine did). I never did seek an understanding of what it was caused by, so I can only share the similarity of my experience.

Unfortunately, all too common and normal, for both robotic and open surgery. I experienced the rectal pains for nearly a year after my open surgery. My doctor said it was normal.

Mel,
Same for me - but as always, ask the Dr. if there is question or any sign of blood in stools.
Keep up the stool softeners, as any stress/strain is very negative.
Also, remember that they took a lot of tissue out that was against one side of the rectum, so things are different in there now.
Hang in there.

Hi mel,Make sure you take a stool softener it makes it a little less painfull.

As others mentioned, I had the same pain for many months. Besides the surgery cutting near the bowel, irregularity caused by the anesthesia and pain killers were a big cause for me. I got back into my natural rhythm using generic Metamucil each morning and slowly the residual pain in the drain went away.

Hi Mel - I also still have this, although I now consider it an irritation, rather than a pain, so it does get better with time. What I find a little more bothersome is that I can go through periods of time where I feel like to have to pee all the time - and then hours later it is back to normal. Hoping that goes away too.
