Catheter Removal Question

Goodvibes...I have heard that sometimes tests are performed to see if there is any internal leakage...but in my case there was no test. He just deflated the balloon and slowly removed the catheter. No big deal.

Nothing special that I can remember other than they pulled some urine out of the catheter first to test for infections, doc said hello, and the nurse came in to deflate and pull. Stung a bit but nothing much. I did bring a "man pad" to use afterward. Unfortunately I did not review on how to put it in my undies so the nurse pulled the adhesive and put the right side toward me. In my defense, it was my first time.

My doctor filled my bladder with a measured amount of water to the point that I felt like I had to urinate pretty bad. He gave me instructions to try to hold the urine / water as long as I could when he removed the cath. After I released the urine, he measured the amount I "gave back" to determine if I had emptied or was retaining water. I passed the test and left the office without a cath.

My first experience was the same. I have to add, though, that my nurse was a funny older Chinese lady. She looked at the bag and said "say goodbye to your friend". Then she told me to take a deep breath, hold it, and blow out hard on her signal. As I blew out, she pulled out, and there you go.

Had to have it put back in, though, after I plugged up. Ugh. So the second time, I had the Xray cystogram. It was fun watching things flow around inside. Then, different old lady nurse, not as funny, but the same result.

Hi all the nurse did fill me with water she said you men are wose about that time she pull it out came i hadto get up rather quickly to pee! I told her she had never had one pulled out. she did'n't know what she was talkingabout. Check uraine for blood and that was it. Wore pads for a couple weeks. Then dripple a little when finish for couple of wks then stop but boy i wore that kege manover out.

My Dr had me remove the catheter myself.It wasn't much fun, it didn't really hurt but just the thought of it made it tough.I was given Cipro for three days starting the day before.I'm now at 28 days past surgery an feeling pretty good .I've been working mornings and trying not to over do it.I read about sitting on a donut here monday and went right out and bought one.what a relief sitting at a desk and driveing .I highly recomend the investment.My incontence is getting better I slept all night for the first time last night and thought I was good but the pad was wet.The last week I've been getting up once and then had no leakage.By mid day my bladder seems to get tired and starts to leak.My only pain now is rectom pain which is directly related to how active been.I have an appointment tuesday with a Radiation Onocologist to discuss adjunct therapy for my positive margines and extroprostatic extension.Just haveing the appt.is a relief in this whole process Dick

My cath got stuck and wouldn't come out. The PA was befuddled. He called the doc who said he'd heard of such a thing but had never seen it in 2000 cases. This was 2 weeks post-op. The diagnoses was that it was hung up on a stitch and I just needed to wait a day or three until the stitch dissolved a bit more and then out it'd come. The left the balloon deflated and told me to call if it wasn't out by Monday; this was on Friday. Saturday night I gave it a try while in the shower and, after a bit of a tug to break the stitch the rest of the way, out it came. The PA told me later that he'd asked another doc about it who said he'd seen in once or twice before.
It was a wonderful feeling to have it out.

I have had 11 catheters taken out of me. None of them hurt, all felt weird. What helps is if the dr/nurse slowly withdraws the fluid from the balloon that is holding in the cath. If they suck it all out at once, it can give back pressure pain. Due to my constant complications with caths, the last 3 times, my urologist himself has removed the caths. He always has me standing up in front of him, with a large towel/pad between my feet. He ever so slowly releases the fluid, and when its time to pull the cath, he does it finger over finger slowly. By standing, he said gravity works in my favor and at a certain point, the nasty rubber snake just slithers out and drops to the floor.

I saw the urologist this morning (not my regular urologist since he is out of town).
He filled my bladder with approximately 90cc of water. Then he removed the leg bag and the catheter and asked me to pee. Kind of backwards, since if I couldn't pee he would have to put it back in.
The removal of the catheter stung a little bit, but I had irritation in the last inch of my penis during the time it was in.

Well, I peed a little bit, and he said that's not enough. So he left the room for about 10 minutes and told me to relax on the way out.

about five minutes later, I let it go. He was pleased to see the amount of urine in the container.

The urologist didn't prescribe any antibiotics. Just said to drink lots of water. I have been drinking about 8 oz of water every 1 to 1 1/2 hours and have been peeing on the same frequency. My stream is fast but smaller in diameter than prior to my surgery.

He said to go straight to emergency and have him called if I can't pee during the night because he will have to reinsert the catheter.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everything goes well. I don't want to have to endure having a catheter reinserted.

I have updated my signature with the pathology report given me today.

It was uncomfortable to have the catheter in to say the least and the end of the penis can get quite sensitive, especially when having a bm as the cathyeter moves further in. Frequently cleaning the end of the tube where it exits the penis and using some Neosporin with pain killer to keep it lubricated seemed to help in my case. Best of luck to you tomorrow.  It will be a major relief to get that out.
