6 week post op check up/ need advice

I had my 6 week post op check up yesterday.  I had my first, and hopefully last, penile injection and an ultrasound.  I was very disappointed that, although it grew to twice its size, it wasn't a workable erection. I am 52 and had no erection problem at all prior to surgery.  Now 6 weeks later the doctor tells me I have about 20% vascular insufficiency on one side and 30% on the other.  I only started using the pump about a week ago so hopefully this improves with use.

I am using 4 pads during the day and one overnight.  Today I used the pump and the accompanying ring and had sex for the first time.  It was quick as I could feel it deflating but mission was accomplished.

Emotionally it was a tough day though.  The doctor seemed disappointed at the level of the erection after the injection. 

I know it has only been 6 weeks but I am wondering if I should be experiencing some movement at this point. I would love to hear from any one who has achieved a usable erection, even with pills, as to how they were at 6 weeks.

Hi, runner.

I'am 7 weeks out and haven't had an erection, no injections tried cialis only got a headache. Using 6 to 8 pads a day. Waiting for the uro next week for suggestions.

runer and rich,

i think you guys are being too hard on yourself. you are both so soon out of surgery, and not just any surgery. you are only weeks out of a complex surgery. i know the ED side is very important, but you should realistic expectations. i hope you both continue to do well in the weeks and months ahead. your poor bodies need a good chance to heal, not just on the outside, that's the easy part, but on the inside where are the complex and intricate surgery took place. good luck to both you guys.

I am sure you know the standard answer to when function returns: It can be from a day to years, as each man is individual. There's no way to say. The best I can say is to continue the 3 p's- pump, pill, prick. Using the pu,p won't return function, mostly likely, but it will keep the penile and abdominal tissues infused with blood and healthy. As will the pills. You nerves must renew, regrow, and repair itself from any damage done during your surgery and that is the question mark, how long it takes. The injections take time to get experience and to dial it in as to what a successful dose will be, so don't get down because the first time wasn't the blockbuster you were expecting. It will take time and practice. But it';s worth it, as it does more good, as far as healing and recovery, that the other 2 p's. Plus you can have dependable sex again. Just don't get discouraged and give up after the first try. There's several guys here willing to help walk you through the process and can share their experiences with successful injections. Just ask.. smilewinkgrin

Six weeks out is a little early to expect much in the ED dept.

I started out with the Viagra and the pump early on then graduated to Bimix in about 3 months. I know it is frustrating after having normal erections but the nerves need time to repair themselves.  I started getting good erections with Viagra about a year post-rp  but 37 IMRT treatments kind of set me back in that department.  Good luck and be patient.
