Well it's great that you are doing so well overall. That is something to be very thankful for.
If I were you, I would not look back and I would not have any regret. If surgery seemed like the right decision at the time and you are up and around and enjoying life to some degree, then you should feel good about your choice.
My posting here started a week ago and I have learned alot in that short week. In fact, I now regret the title of this post since communicating with so many who are much futher along on this journey. It sounds very self centered, even though it was partly an attempt to be humorous and lighten my mood.
Someone once said to me (and it was an old chinese guy, so you can take it to the bank)... "Learn to appreciate no toothache". It's the same thing with life and death. Being dead is actually our default condition. Think of how many dead people there are! Being alive is something to appreciate everyday.
You're only 6 months out with a long life ahead of you. My guess is that things will improve and you will reconcile all of this in your mind over time.
