I was thinking of you yesterday and was hoping you would post today. Glad it went so well and that is a good idea to spend a couple of nights in Atlanta after the surgery, especially given the drive over the mountains. I think you will also like Dr. Shahs surgical assistant as he was very helpful. He and his wife are from the Phillipines and are both nurses. Now you can put this part behind you and rest up for April.

Check with your wife to see if you can host a keg and pretzel party at Lake Chatuge in early May. Lots of us would like to spend time on the lake and what a great way to celebrate the cath being removed.

I spent five nights in a hotel after my da Vinci and I encourage you to book for more than two. You can always check out, but if you've got a week, I'd not be surprised if you took more than two nights of it. A hotel is a perfect place. Clean sheets every day. Room service. A coffee shop down stairs. Places to go outside for walks that are different. And a taxi stand outside the door to take you to a big mall --- and a big mall is a great place to go walking, have some lunch, and do some more walking. And, I didn't have friends and neighbors dropping in to say hello when I least wanted to see people I knew. By the time I was home I was ready to take on the people who felt they just "had" to visit. One nice bonus is we were close to the hospital, and the experienced medical staff, and this was a huge comfort to my wife. She was an OR nurse, and not someone who needed a lot of medical support, but knowing the experts were close at hand made her life easy too. We actually had a great time together and adjusting to post surgical life. It was a holiday. So, consider booking the Marriott for a week. By the way, the hotel I was at had a special hospital rate. Worth asking about.

Chatuge, I am doing well, and I'm sure you will too.

One great piece of advice I got from the group here, and from several friends who had donated their prostate to medical science, is that recovery isn't a race against how others are doing, or did, and especially not against some "goal" you've imposed on yourself. It's not easy to allow yourself the luxury of a few extra days in the hosptial (in many ways it was really a luxury for my wife, so that made it an easier sell to myself) or to not fuss about meeting a self imposed goal to be back at work, cutting the grass, golfing again, whatever. We really enjoyed our hotel time and just being together without others around. And, the hotel had a big honking flat screen on the wall at the end of the bed.
