Spoke with surgeon about implants and went for preop last week. While speaking with the phys assist, he said I was a little young for implants just yet, even though I'm 4 years post RP.  He discussed med I have tried and noted I had not yet tried MUSE.  An hour later a nurse instructed me and I did it there in the office.  Thirty minutes later I had a "raging" erection, but it was VERY PAINFUL.mad  Instead of using a titration method, he had me do 1000 mcg.  Three hours later on the way home it started to subside.

First: With a smaller dose, will this likely be less painful.  It was pain similar to trimix but much worse.confused Second:  If used fairly regular, will my body adjust to the med, making it less painful.confused

I tried MUSE and never got much out of it. Maybe half an erection but with the Alprostadil pain. I would stay with the Trimix or continue the route to an implant.

MUSE  did nothing for me except for Pain....Dr. had me get a script filled 6 units.  I have tried 3 and have the other 3 in the frigde!.  Moved on the Caverject which is the same drug but in injection form...No pain for me.  Just Fun!

I've used MUSE on an off for the last 6-8 months (but mostly depend on The Pump for any meaningful erections -- a lot cheaper too!).

When I first used MUSE at 1000 mcg dose it too gave quite a bit of ache and I did not like it much.

Then I went down to MUSE at 500 mcg dose and that was better with less ache and about the same 80-90-100% erection.

Have you been doing VED pump therapy all along? If Willy has been just languishing for long periods then, yeah, any fullness-hardness level is going to cause some pain.

Now when I use 1000 mcg MUSE it does not ache all that much, so yes I think your body parts do adjust to it over time.

See also my post about Trimix Gel + MUSE. That is working for me at 100% levels -- but I think the boost is a little too much since the ache is back somewhat.

Ask your doc for a 500 mcg MUSE prescription so you can experiment a bit. (but remember your Insurance will probably only fill 6-shots each month -- even if you have two scrips -- not both. That is the way my insurance works it).

I am well aware what some of you are going through with insurance companies and the lack of. Stupid as it seemed for many years, I did 15 active years in the Army and got medically retired...if you are not a paperwork kinda person, never try to fly a desk. I have three choices: Ft L. Wood hospital, TriCare or the VA. The VA and the Army no longer prescribe Viagra, which is the only pill that works much at all; but TriCare does.

Hopefully, somewhere along the line; this insurance crisis will get leveled out. Best of luck to all.

I'm also covered by Tricare. Are all the ED meds covered by Tricare? I haven't completely decided on my primary treatment yet (leaning towards robotic assisted surgery), but I figure I should start gathering everything I'll need. Should I get some sort of pump?

First off we chose NOT to do radiation.....being military we all know about any type of radiation is not a good thing. We also chose NOT to do CHEMO....NO WAY! Got second opinion from the VA and counseled with surgeon at U of M Columbia, MO. The choice is yours.

Any coverage from VA? TriCare pays for 6 Viagra but the VA got me bimix injection. The combe works nicely, but I do hate needles. BUT! Speak with you doctor NOW about erection therapy aftrer surgery. You may not be thinking much about sex for 2 weeks after surg, but you will want to know WHAT will be done for YOU. TriCare will probably pay for a pump also....check it out first. I have seen places on line to buy the pumps less expensive then the medical places....because Medicare and insurance in general pay WAY to much. $150 to $300 a shot. You may be able to find for around $100 for the same pump.

Any more Q's just ask.

I know what you mean about the military and radiation thing having served at one time as a commander of a tactical nuclear weapons site.

I should have VA coverage since I'm rated at 50% disability (never used the VA, so I'll have to check with them). I'll be sure to talk to my Doc now about post surgery therapy.

What pumps are recommended?

One tip to remember Drums! Never let the VA or TriCare know what the other is doing for you. Why? TriCare would only allow one med for ED. So they do my Viagra (costs me copay) but VA does my bimix....which I happen to tolorate very well. My Uro said to use half of each and boy does it work. She can play with it for up to 2+ hours.
