David, I told my wife about the latest of your journey and she asked, "Is this poor guy ever going to catch a break? Good question to which I had no answer but I only wish you the best in any further results....and I hope that "break" is coming soon.

Mel, thanks. Yes, having a SP cath for a few days or a week or so, then having it removed isn't so bad. My dr. said there is only about a 2 minute window to remove and replace one. What didn't help, was appearently I am dealing with another UTI, and they caused a big increase in the pain dept, and the dr. said the hole was unusually tight as he was inserting the new one. The very first time I had one removed and replaced, it didnt hurt at all, but since then, the past two that were changed while I was concious, hurt like hell. Been a very painful afternoon and evening, we are assuming its from the UTI. The dr's office tommorow will have the culture results and will call in the right antibiotic for me. I am on a generic type one just to see if it relieves some of the pain and pressure. Sorry to read about your incontinence issues, I know that is a set back to you, and a frustrating one at that.

Bob, thank you for you and your wife's care and concern. Last year, from March till about late June, I was healing, dry, and no ED, and starting to feel alive again, but since the big stricture last July, been downhill ever since, and then of course, went into the SRT, and that definitely made everything worse. I am very discouraged right now, but I still want to believe that at some point, weeks or months from now, that I can at least get back to where I was last year at this time. It does seem endless, going from one bad and painful thing to the next. I know a lot of other people have things much worse than me, so I hate to vent or gripe too much.

My heart goes out to. I am so sorry that your journey has been so challenging.  I hope things get better for you very soon.  I read about your incident at the doctor's office.  My husband completed his radiaiton treatments on March 26. We attended a birthday party on March 20. (black tie formal event). My husband went to the bathroom thinking that he had to urinate. Well before he actually got into the stall, he had urinated and had a bowel movement at the same time. (IN HIS TUX) He was so embarassed. He called me from his cell phone in the stall. I told him to come out of the bathroom as is because he did not have a change of clothes, and could not very well leave the soiled tux in the trash and walk out with no pants.  I was able to convince him to come out of the bathroom (as is smelling bad) and go home. He reluctantly came out and we walked out of the building with brown paper bags over our heads. (just kidding). We were embarassed and humiliated on temporarily. We laughed about it on the way home.  It was 31 degrees and we rode him with all the windows down. (threw the tux away after we got home lol). I hope this makes you feel a lot better about your incident.

Thanks for sharing that story, no matter how bad one feels, there is always something worse out there. I have had the fear of doing a two-in-one event like he did, but so far been spared. I hope his radiation ends up being effective for him.

WEDNESDAY MORNING UPDATE

I took antibiotic last nite and this morning. Slept better than I expected, took double the pain med as normal to help sleep better. I am off for a few hours of consulting working this morning, hoping I will be ok and not get too sore. Its beautiful here today ,close to 80 F and sunny. Hoping this will be a better day.

David,

I like the others read your post and cannot believe the pain you are going through without end.  You must be a very strong man to endure all this and still find the time to share your ordeal with us all,  but just maybe it helps to know you have so many people who care and are praying for you.

Jerry, my friends here, all the brothers/sisters are a critical part of my own personal support network.

I am not strong, I hate pain, have a low tolerance of pain in general, just so disapointed at this point, as I am making no progress on solving the chronic stricture issues, now I have wait still another month with this SP cath, and see how I am doing then.

Tommorow, makes a full 6 months continuous with the SP cath. Never thought that would be possible.

I have just caught up with your post and all I can say is "bloody hell!!". Sometimes some forget that you expressed your fears of the effect of radiation well before the event ........ fears well founded given your previous experiences. As you say, nobody did anything wrong, it is just the way your body reacts to the bombardment. What I admire is in the midst of all this adversity and pain you still do not really ***** or moan about your predicament. In spite of all your personal setbacks and grief you always take the time and effort to welcome all newcomers and give them much needed encouragement, support and reassurance ............ Despite your objections to it being said you are my friend, a man among men and we all here on this forum could learn much from your attitude and unselfishness. I salute you, ol' mate and anxiously await the day when the tide finally turns for you.

Hello Billy, my good Aussie mate. Was hoping you would check in soon. BTW, I just gave the red headed vixen your message, and she said hello back along with a "wink wink". Do you two know something I don't know? lol.

I refuse to take my troubles out on anyone here. And want to make sure each new brother, or sister speaking for their men, know that we are all here to care, and to listen, and to give advice the best we are qualified to do. I learned a long time ago in life, that if you are in a bad way, the best way to help yourself is to help others. And I really believe that.

Did too much today: now paying the pain price this evening. Spent 3 hours doing consulting work with my former boss, then came home and spent almost 2 hours emptying, cleaning, and filling our hot tub (spa), even though I can't use it due to my catheter, and then did house work and made home made pizza for the wife when she got home.

I'm sorry for what you are going through. I am sure you love your doctor, but just reading this I wish to God that he had thought for two seconds to giving you the darn shot of demerol before subjecting you to that!!! Especially since he remarked you were too sore and inflamed to proceed with the scoping. I read your concerns about pain killer , but frankly, it is the DOCTOR'S RESPONSIBILITY to anticipate the kind of pain you may experience and medicate you accordingly.

I am saddened by your ordeal. pardon me if getting mad at your doctor perhaps helps me with this!

they were set to give me 100 mg of demoral when I walked in his office, on the assumption that I was going to be scoped again. When I told them that wasn't going to happen on that visit, there was no need for the shot.

I agreed with my dr, just changing out the SP cath should have been a piece of cake, 2 minutes or less, little pain. After this event, he said in a month from now, he will be prepared to deal with pain issue prior to doing another swap, so we can avoid another painful traumatic experience.

Had I taken the demoral, I wouldn't have cared that it hurt, lol. Its all good.

David, just got back from 2 weeks fishing holiday up North, and dropped in here to see how you are going, man you are having a rough time of it!!! but I also read between the lines that you are a very strong man, as we have to be to fight this rotten disease, my wife and I wish you all the best.

David, I haven't posted to your message but have been following your continuing ordeal.

I cannot imagine how hard you're fighting to maintain any sense of normalcy in your life. I know that God doesn't give us more than we can handle but I sometimes wish He didn't have so much confidence in you!

I know that you have that all-important PSA test next week. Keeping you in our prayers for great news...and for relief from your current situation.

Sephie, I too, am thankful that your John is doing so well, and pulled that last zero. That's how it should work.

If I am being tested, should afraid to know what I am being tested for. If its about how many times can we torture someone before they give in, I may not be too far away.

If anything else could be done productive at this point, you could be assured it would be done. So its more of the "let's wait" and see if the swelling subsides and the radiation damage heals" thinking.
