Maybe some of you already know this.  There is a clinical study going on comparing HIFU to Cryo going on in the US.  I am interested in at least exploring HIFU.  I spoke to a representative yesterday and they asked about 30 questions to check my qualifications.  I fit the study perfectly except for the height of my prostate which is .4 (cm? mm?) higher than it can be for the study.  It needs to be .25 and mine is .29. The height measurement was determined by MRI.  I know that MRIs are read by people, and I am assuming that the measurement is probably determined by placing some Xs on a computer screen and then connecting them with a loop or something.  Any MRI experts out there?

I've asked for a re-read of the MRI to make sure the measurement was accurate.  So we will see what happens next.

I'm not sold on HIFU, but if I can get over this hurdle, it would be interesting to see what the study has to offer.  I've seen some positive outcomes from people who have gone outside the US to get HIFU.   Of course these are very short term results and at my age I'm looking for something with staying power!

I explored HIFU as well and chose da vinci.
My sister has worked in UK as a physician and she consulted her urologist colleagues in UK.
For my age, 48 and low gleason 3+3 surgery was recommeded.
What I understand if you are a good candidate for surgery (age, gleason, health) then that is the option else other options are viable.
Any treatment which leaves prostate in any shape in you body has long term ramification

(BassGuy) Use the Bass-o-matic blender and drink your bass...like on Saturday Night Live skit from way back..it was too halarious. Alot of ways to consider combating PCa and with the new things being handled right now, you might not want to rush into anything. Your stats are right about in line with John Hopkins definition of 'indolent PCa', my brothers stats are like this, has only done AS (WW) now for like 5 yrs. and no change in Psa...it is nice to remain intact as long as you monitor and do some other factors along the way.

I could tell a little (true) story on Rick K. from Michigan whom decided to go the drug route as primary treatment as the DR. Leibowitz methodology, he has bought over 14 yrs. now without major treatments, and got to remain totally normal for the majority of those years, he is in no rush and can still do all primary type treatments if and when he choses. I find this interesting to learn. I have his phone number as proof of this story so, if anyone doubts this enough I can put you in touch. Anyway good sailing no matter what your course.

Yes...  I have tried to base my life on the that SNL skit.  That in combination with another great Dan Akroyd skit...  Fred Garvin: Male **********!  "Now little lady, we can get down to business if you can help me with my intricate network of trusses."

I am taking a conservative approach and don't plan to jump into anything.  I have some time and I plan to use that time to learn everything I can.  By the time I am ready to do something, HIFU might be FDA approved, or be debunked.  We'll see.

Wow... the board bleeped one of my words.  Those of you who know the skit know the word.  You could say it on TV in 1976, but not here!  Interesting!  Probably a good policy to keep things civil.

Great to hear Bass buddy you didn't get over sold into a hook-line-&-sinker immediate treatment scenario, nobody reeled you in as a fine catch (LOL)...which many people are never told they could consider waiting or taking a drug like casodex while deciding upon the when, where, how and such. You are more like the one that got away or broke someone's line (ha-ha).

Loved your reply in humor, that made my gills quiver. Sometimes I feel like a large mouth (bass) and other times small mouth (bass), sometimes I fight like a crappie you think you caught a bass, until you reel in it and see this little sunfish type with spots on him (what a fighter). Here is some dumb humor: No spin zone (aka fly fisherman), Treble hook (hip-hop music without the boom-box base), Off the hook (lol- nothing to do about fish anymore), Bottom-feeders (I am going to do a Forest Gump...that is all I'm going say about that),
Trolling (hope your image is correct)-LOL.  Fish-bait (yeah..make sure you get her phone). Hey my line just broke...good thing for you.

Yeah, no wonder I never made it onto SNL or became a comic writer...maybe I am on the hook still!!!

Hey my wife thought I was a good catch and hasn't thrown me back, atleast not yet. I liked to be thought of as a schooled fish(also independently swimming in the nasty type waters) but can go undetected when the real predators come to feasting. Making friends with some sharks whenever possible, they can watch your back. I also like to occassionally kick some Bass, so I must be multi-stripped! Laugh..and world laughs with you..great in theory!
