Thanks to one and all, above this post. It is one major hassle in my life back under control. A lot of depressing stories out there for those of us that were over 55 and unemployed, stories about how most in that age bracket will never have full time jobs again. I will be starting out in the 4th highest position in the firm, not bad for an old fart like me. It also helped that I am the second youngest in the upper management team.

Glad I got a few weeks to adjust to the idea of working full time again, tie up some loose consulting ends here locally, and see if my dr and I can get me into some kind of better shape. Sure wish I could be cath free, then all I would have to deal with, is the chronic fatituge.

Also waiting some new word from the VA, about my disability claim, that too could make a major improvement in my financial life as well.

Appreciate all your kindness shown throughout my lingering ordeal.

Thanks, Mike. Yeah, in a state that still has over 11% unemployment, feel like a major accomplishment. The president of the firm said they started with over 400 resumes from virtually every state in the US.

Great news. It will be good to start a new job. I am happy it has worked out. I guess patience is to key to looking for work and dealing with cancer.

Thank you, guys. Patience on the job front is an understatement in this economy. Was honestly starting to believe I would never have work again, and I was in no position to retire. During that 22 month period, the longest unemployed time of my life, I would estimate that I sent out over 1,500 resumes, went on perhaps as many as 20 interviews, etc. In the "old days", if I were out of work and I went on a job interview, I always had a 50/50 chance of landing the job, not like that anymore.

In my area (SC), the worse hit are new graduates from College. Unless their degree is in a medical field, i.e. Nursing, they are finding no chance of getting an entry level job in their field, and many end up lucky to get a job in a resturant or Wal-mart stocking shelves. Unemployment here is above 11%. When I first moved to this region, it was like 1 1/2%, so much has changed.

Even during my worse moments of battling PC, including recovering from surgeries, all through the worse of the cath time and endless spasms, I still had to spend time every day looking for work. Was no easy matter some days. I can remember going to job interviews trying to hide the cath tubing and the leg bag, and fighting off the pain of a spasm, while trying to act like everything was fine.

The fullness of getting this position hasnt even sunk in yet I dont believe.

Congratulations David.
Don't underestimate the impact your fatigue will have on working a full time job.
Even when healthy, it's a bear starting a full time job if you haven't worked for awhile.
I had stopped work years ago to go back to school for a few years. When I started working full time again I couldn't believe how tiring it was.

I don't know how one would "train" to adjust to a full time work week, but if there's anything you can do to try to slowly acclamate your body to it I think that would be a good idea.

Again, congradulations. You beat some tough odds in getting that job.

David, What can I say. Words cannot express my pleasure when I read your post. All I can say is you truly "are the man". It was great to see. It just goes to show what dedication and perseverance (as well as a nice suit smilewinkgrin) can do. That's one down and one to go ........ perhaps now the wheel has turned in your favour. Well done 'ol mate.

David, I'm thrilled, delighted, pleased and just downright happy to read this wonderful news.

I don't know if you can add two and two and get three, or five, (depending on the needs of the company --- if you can get "two" or "six" government is the place for you) but I'd want you as a business partner in a heart beat based on what I know you do have --- brains, persistence, and bravery worthy of Britian's Victoria Cross.

You've got some big challenges ahead. Anyone, without the PCa, would. With the catheter, and the pain, it's a whole new level of challenge. I'm sure you'll deal with it though.

Is work far from your home? Just wondering how long the commute you might be facing is.

Thanks Sheldon, on a good day, the commute should be about 35 mins or so each way, but if any wrecks or jams ups on the interstate, could take an hour coming home, a bit more than I was hoping for on top of working 8-10 hr days

Don't be anxious about it. As is always the case in life, so many things will be beyond your control. All you can ever do is to make sure you do the very best you can. No one, including you, can legitimately ask more from you than that.
