Some follow up questions about trimix that I originally posted in another thread, but thought after would be better as a new thread.

I'm about 1.5 years out from RP (all zeros - yeah!!), good continence, and one nerve reported spared.  Divorced shortly after the RP, and only recently back into dating.  Well, successfully at least :-)   Found a great one who is very understanding and supportive, but I want it all, both for me and for her.

I've had 'almost' usable success on and off with Levitra, nothing much from Viagra, and only a splitting headache from Cialis.  I say on and off success as I haven't yet figured out the variables.  Sometimes barely OK results, sometimes nothing.  Alcohol is out.  Totally zero's the response.  Have tried the compression rings and they also do some good, but only on the downstream side if you will, when you really need some firmness at the base as well.

If anything, results are getting worse, not better with time.  So, although somewhat squeamish and a little horrified, I'm beginning to think about the shots.  So, some questions:

How much are the prescriptions?

What's the shelf life for use?

They have to be refrigerated, right?

Are the shots just subcutaneous (just under the skin), or deep?

Any qualitative differences from a 'natural' erection?

How long does it last?

Uncomfortable to remain erect after you're done?

Rolerbe, I was a contestant of the injection game and it is not near as painful as some might think. It is a somewhat unnatural erection yet definately "useable". I find a pharmacy that would mix for me called a "compound" pharmacy about $20.00 to last 30-40 injections caverject is expensive shelf life (refrigerated) is 2-3 mos yes they all have to be stored in the refer. The shots have to be half to three quarter into the corpas! what i did was spin back and forth a process that took approx  a couple of minutes so the needle disappears completely. The erection as i said is a little unnatural. In answer to the ywo remaining questions would be it can last up to four hours, but it can last longer ive had to hit the e.r. on several occasions you have to get the dosing right. The erection will ache to some degree, but you learn how to work with this method. Ive just had an implant and am having growing pains hope it was the right decesion people tell me it was,but now i miss the injections which are a sure fire remedy. best of luck  Mike Callahan

Me: 5ml of 30mg/1mg/20mcg Trimix, .15cc or 15 units per dose, l= around 40 doses= cost of 5ml is $97.00. Same asmount of Bimix vial is $57.00.
Note: I have to have more than the average guy here of Trimix, so you may not use anywhere as much as the next guy.

Shelf life is around 3 months and is kept refrigerated. I have used mine up to 8 months with no problem, but that's my decision, not recommendation.

The shots are done with a 30 or 31 ga needle , 5/8 or 1/2 inch long, on a insulin syringe. The shot is given midway from the back of the head of the penis and the body, into a 2 to 3 o'clock and 9 1o 10 o'clock position The needle is inserted all the way into the penis- vertically, to place the drugs into the cavernous cavities inside the penis.

If done right, most guys say they get a much harder than 'normal' erection, similiar to when they were a teen. Remember how that was? They can last from 1/2 hour to 3 hours, and I find they aren't uncomfortable to have after finishing use and before it goes down.

Somehow I knew it would be too much to ask for for just a sub-q injection. But, given the trip so far, just one more little indignity to bear.

One other aspect I have found, and has been mentioned a few times. If you are laying down and start to get soft, the drug kicks back in if you get up and walk around for a few minutes. Sometimes thats a good thing and other times, it's not. If you are trying to go to sleep, you learn real quickly to not get up for quite awhile.

To reverse the effect, taking the "Old" Sudafed will usually make everything go away quickly. This is the Sudafed that's behind the counter and you have to use your driver's license to get.

Big thing to do is get an auto-injector. makes injections simple and much safer

Uncomfortable to remain erect after you're done? - - While erect it is really difficult to put on jeans, and really difficult to convince my GF that we are done

Key to the success rate is the shot process, you need to perfect the way you administer the shot. The longer the medication stays in your penis before bloodflow naturally flushes it out the better. The Auto injector helps greatly here as it is a one hand operation freeing the other hand to constrict the base

Not much to add to what the other guys have said. I like the 31 gauge needle, that is 5/16 inch long (I feel it is less intimidating and that I have less chance of bruising than with the bigger needles). The ones I buy have a 1/2 ml (cc) capacity, which I find easier to read than a 1 ml (cc) capacity (you may be dealing in volumes of less than .05 ml (cc); not much of a volume and hard see). You might want to buy a couple different sizes and figure out which size you like best.

Also, you'll probably use less Trimix as your ED improves .... My ED seems to be slooooooowly improving .... I had a working level of about 0.035 ml for many months (been doing trimix for about a year), and have had to redouce the level to about 0.02 ml.

Be sure to work with you doctor on getting started, especially with the initial level. I started at 0.1 ml and it was too much.

I have been injecting for 32 months+ with success.   Different - yes.  Hurt - minimal to none.  IC is good.  Somewhat more sensitive after orgasm for about two minutes, so you either idle or go slow but then things pick up well.  Better then flacid state and makes one feel like a man.  Best dosef or me to perform well usually lasts four hours or more.  If the penis is warm during that time you are OK.  If the penis is cold, you need to soften or you are hurting the take a couple of sudafed's.

Intimacy is good even w/o an erection but the erection is satisfying making both partners especially fond of giving more deeply to one another.  Don't hesitate, take advantage now and be more fullfilled in this once given life.  You owe it to yourself and those who share your intimacy.

Mike, what were the reasons you decided to go with an implant instead of sticking with the injections?

Saw a paragraph on Trimix Gel on FrankTalk (which I just found for the first time). Has anyone here tried it? Any particular benefit in comfort of application, or am I still just being overly squeamish?

Hi all,
I'm new to HealingWell and stumbled onto this thread.
My prostatectomy was 18 years ago and I've been using injections (first quad, then bi-mix) for years. First, I've found that the shelf-life is about 6-8 months, but I do sometimes need to increase my dosage. Second - really important to me, is that by using an automatic injector that the hypo slips into, the shots are a breeze. Totally pain free and easy. Really. I use the BD Automatic Injector, and use the fattest ring they include in the box (about 1/4" thick). The hypo slips into the injector, locks in and I just push a button. The injector plunges the needle into my penis really quickly - I mean fast - and I literally don't feel it. then I depress the plunger to inject the bi-mix and I'm done.
Before I started using the auto injector, the shots scared me and I really didn't use them. Now my biggest problem is sneaking away to give myself the injection without my wife knowing it, so that I can give the illusion of spontaneity.
Before injections, I tried the "cock ring", but it cut off all of my sensation, so wasn't an acceptable solution.

Don’t hesitate.  Do it.  Do it now.  You’ll be glad you did.  Most guys wish they hadn’t waited so long.  Go see your uro.  Make sure he teaches you how to do it and gives you your first shot.  I had 2 instructional appointments on back to back days.  First day he gave me the shot; the 2nd day I gave myself the shot while he observed.  And be careful with the dose!  We all require different amounts.  Start low (I started with 0.05cc) and work your way up.  Be patient – you’ll get there.
