I am sore but glad to be home. Some of the lessons I learned was to follow all the Drs. orders and do not be afraid to ask your loved ones for help. For example, if the medical team says take sort walks, do it. I am a stubborn old man but am slowly comming around.

Congratulations and welcome to the other side. Yes those walks are really important. They make you heal faster and lowers the risk of getting blood clots.

I'm with ya - surgery on 07/16 - Home 07/18.

No symptoms to speak of
PSA 10.4
Prostate not enlarged

Samples taken mid-April
6 out of 12 samples cancer
1) gleason score 3+4 involving 30% Right Base
2) gleason score 3+4 involving 40% Right _
3) gleason score 4+4 involving 50% Right Apex

Bone scan clean except a 1 mm spot on left scapula
CT scan clean

Biopcy of Scapula was negative, Doctor says good/bad news, we want to watch it.

07/16/2010 - Laparoscopic Radical Prostatectomy (LRP) @ MCR, Loveland, CO
07/18/2010 - Home
07/20/2010 - JP Drain removed

07/26/2010 - Scheduled X-Ray/Catheter removal

Feeling better every day. Two Grand kids (1 & 3yrs) running around here every day - They've never wore me out like this before, hehe, yep, baby steps, slow and easy.

Surgery - Friday, Went well, removed two lymph nodes, came back from lab negative, continued with operation.
Hospital - Two nights, wanted to ensure system flowing properly
- Blood pressure up and down, 83, 125, 97, 103...
- JP drain still draining.
- Solid food Sunday - breakfast/dunch/dinner
Home - Sunday, Yes!! - Little sleep at home better than any sleep at hospital. Slow-Tired-Sore
- JP drain increased to 100cc every 2-3 hours. Removed Tuesday, continued to drain most of evening, healed shut over night.
- system slow to flow, all liquids Monday/stool softeners/herbal Lax tea - Midnight relief!
- Feeling better each day! System still slow but working/gas pains, ...
- taking it easy, snacks every 2-3 hrs, walk, sit, rest, repeat

Meryle and Patches - the worst is over! It's all just recovery from now on.

Things to do during recovery:

Count the Weird things coming out of your penis - take pictures.
Enjoy the cath...you can drink as much as you want and never have to pee. See how much you can drink to fill the bag.
See how full you can get your cath bag before your family gets grossed out.
If you leave the cath bag in the middle of the room, how many things can you still reach?

How many reruns of Family Guy can you watch in one day?

There are many more. Be creative.

Great Going, welcome to the other side, the recovery side. Yes, it pays to be compliant to your surgeons order's after such a complex and invasive surgery. Hope you continue to do well

Welcome to this side of surgery and onto the road to recovery. You have learned a lot, and you might be stubborn, but at age 49 your not old!!! Keep us posted.

Welcome both of you kids to this side (I'm 57) -
Take it easy, walk if/when you can, and speak up if you need to vent or ask questions, or just let us know how you're doing - I for one have been there, experienced that -

Quick thought. Don't leave the cath bag on the floor if you have a pet. Bad things will certainly follow...trust me. It only happened once until the dog taught me obedience. Ouch! I never taught her how to " Leave it." until it was too late. Now when I tell her she obeys immediately. We had a lot of time to work on it.

Update - x-rays and cath out on Monday, 07/26/2010, Ok Paul, I appreaciate the cath much more now! it didn't leak as much. The original pumbing has a ways to go it appears, plumbers putty ?, maybe one of those clips they used before they scoped my bladder!
