I'm curious how people prefer to learn results of post PC treatment PSA tests? I absolutely HATE the waiting game with my heart jumping each time the phone rings. My uro's office sometimes e-mails me results, sometimes calls at various times of day the next day, and sometimes forgets to call so I call near the end of the second day. The uncertainty and anxiety drives me nuts!!
For the last two tests, I asked the nurse to mail my results so I can have some "control" over knowing when I will receive the news. That way, I know when I go to the mailbox, that is the time I will learn the results. If it doesn't happen one day, I at least have a structured time the next (or the next).
Any thoughts??

I have mine drawn at the local hospital. Two days later I can got to the records office and get the official report from the lab.
When I see the doctor, I already know the results.
Works best for me.

I call the radiation oncology nurse a few business days after the blood draw. Takes the drama out of the actual visit.

My results are called to my phone as soon as they are done (1-2 days), and that is followed up by a postcard in my mailbox for a hard copy.

I call the doctor's office the day after the test and get the result. I always ask her to give me the exact result of the ultra sensitive test.

I always have my blood drawn on Monday and set up a time late Wednesday for me to call them. I have asked that they don't call me or my wife.
Silly reason, but if the PSA isn't what I expected...I want to be the one to tell my wife...not the doctor's office. I know my wife well enough and I know how to present any bad news to her. When the doctor call to tell me I had cancer from the biopsy, they couldn't reach me and so they called her instead. (Married guys know exactly where I am coming from. Never again!!!)
A Doctors office can't see the other persons reaction over a phone and know exactly what to say and when to say it.

I go into the lab for the blood draw and receive the results the next morning via phone. One of the nice benefits of being able to deal with MD Anderson here for all my and my wife's issues, is that they have the labs on site and they don't mess around with getting it done. The next time I am personally there (at least once a week either for my wife or me), I pick up a printed copy of all of the results and add it to my file.

I actually have a friend who is a doctor in town. I have the results sent to him (as well as my Ford doctor, family physician, and urologist). He will email the results to me the next day.

I ask the person writing the order to put my name in one of the "Send results to " boxes.
The report comes in the mail a couple of days later.

I get the results the within an hour of the blood being drawn. I have the blood drawn before I see the doctor and he gives me the news during my office visit.

My lab has an online service where they claim to post the results as soon as available. I've only had 1 test, but the results were there when I checked the next day. My uro called me that evening, but I already had the results.

I get the blood drawn a week before, then I have to wait a week to get results from Doc. The worse part is my urlogist office is sooooo busy where last time I sat for two hours before I saw him. He came in last time and said I have an urgent problem will see u in a bit. My heart is pumping!!! I like my Doc alot but it is tough. During a benefit dinner his office had he did mention that he thanked the patients for being patient with him and his office where he spends alot of time with the patients that need it which I totally understand! I wish I got an email.......

My doctor communicates PSA results via US mail if the news is good and delivers bad news via the phone.

I have my blood drawn locally, about
2 minutes away, and have the Uro's. nurse have them fax me the results, as well as to the Dr.'s office. I know the results when I see the doc a week later.

I have the results at HMO's online MyChart the next day.
Haven't seen the need to spend another $30 copay for the uro visit.

My Ins. co. requires a specific lab, so my GP's bloodwork has to be sent off. It is usually 4-5 days for a response. If it is "normal", the sr. nurse calls, and since I see her often and feel like she is very good, I trust that she explains things well. If bad, the Dr. calls.
