I hesitate to ask as your course seems to be set....but I was wondering if you had been offered or considered a neo-bladder?

I just got off the phone with my brother who had bladder cancer 18 months ago for which all surgical and chemo treatments failed. He had his bladder and prostate, including all nerves removed last fall. He was able to have a neo-bladder constructed - which is essentially building a new bladder from small intestine.

He is thrilled with his situation now. No incontinence. He had to learn how to control the muscles and that took a few months. But he is dry day and night, no problems with leakage and pretty much back to living life as it was before cancer.

There may be reasons why a neo-bladder is not an option for you but I was so happy to get the update on my brother's condition that I wanted to bring it your attention as you are having a similar procedure (bladder removal) as he did. Please forgive me if I have overstepped in asking you about this.

David,  You are, have been and will be in our prayers. All sounds like a good plan so far & you know how nurses like their "plans of care"! Rest up, research, & hang in there..I'm thinking a whole new "winning ball game" for you this time next year!  Nurse Annie & Mr. unhappy sox fan

David hope you can do well on all fronts. I think we all learned in PCa, it can be Greek to us, until it gets deciphered or translated and put down into laymens words. Into Latin maybe after this is done you be Livin La Vida Loca! (I hope) Speaking of laymen...here is a fishin buddy and his words of wisdom (he might be poco loco, I love his humor):

pipe - i am not a good candidate for a neo bladder, those options have been discussed. my surgeon would not be able to justify removing my bladder at this point in time, as there is no evidence of bladder cancer. Plus, he said the diversion surgery will be much easier to do without the complication of a bladder removal.

I'll keep you in my prayers and sure hope this ends your QOL issues.

You'll be busy going back and forth, never mind the surgery.

Good luck with your next surgery. I hope it restores some peace and QoL improvement once done.

When I was younger, I used to love going sailing. Never had the chance to own a boat myself but wish I could. Having said that, I hope the sun shines on you and the wind is on your back...paraphrased from somewhere but you know my intent.

Oh, sorry. I assumed your bladder was being removed when you said something to the effect that both you and your doctors had given up on it healing and being useful again.

I wish you well with your surgery.

I live in Powdersville, just south of Greenville. Our house is located at the northwest tip of Anderson County, about five miles from Easley. So we are pretty close neighbours!!

sancarlos = you are the closest to me yet. I live on the otherside of downtown Easley, near the Hospital, we should hook up sometime

pipe = the bladder is still alive, but heavily radiation damaged, but still not surgicaly justified to be removed

Ray, it wont cure me or all my woes, but it should end the constant need for catheters, which in turn produce most of my daily pain and anguish, and end all the bladder spasms. Thanks.

Well, David. I go off to the cottage for a couple of weeks, and I miss being here to cheer this good news when you first shared it. And, I do think it good news. Getting rid of those rubber snakes, and your 'daily pain and anguish' will be a huge step forward.

Sheldon, I just hope I am not just exchanging problems, my body hasn't cooperated too well with anything I have done since PC entered my life.
