I read that easy bruising may be a sign of cancer. I had rrp on 9-8-2010.  Going through all the fun stuff, ed, incontinence, etc. Recently I noticed that I bruise very easily. Today I was changing flow valve on commode. After I was done my forearm and hand had some nasty bruises. Anyone else having the same issues?

I have been an easy bruiser since childhood - was told it wasn't enough calcium in my blood - also can be from other deficiencies ( do a google search for bruises easily) and you can find a number of links) - but never heard or saw any relationship to cancer with bruising -
-it can also be a part of growing old ( shudder the thought !)

Thanks for the information.  I guess we will blame it on age.  I remember seeing these same bruises, etc on my grandfather and thinking "boy is he old."  What goes around comes around.

It takes a big knock to give me a bruise. Yet my wife and daughter have always bruised easily.
In fact last night we were discussing getting new chairs for the kitchen and she rejected a number of possibilities as she said the corners stuck out and she would keep banging herself on them.
The docs tested my daughter and found nothing wrong with her.
Their skin also reacts badly to insect bites and mine doesn't. I guess they have sensitive capilliaries.

Any sudden change from being a non-bruiser to a bruiser might be worth mentioning to a doc though.
After surgery your body can also go into a strange mode as it processes all the chemicals that were put into you. Certain pain meds can also affect blood clotting and thus bruising. (Hence no aspirin based meds around surgery.)

Hello Alf,

Yes, insect bites will cause me to itch terribly.  Haven't had any blood thinners such as aspirin for six or seven weeks. Do not take prescription thinners. I dunno. Guess I will let the doctor know.  He is response will be prefaced by "as we age..."

Are you taking a daily 81mg aspirin or other anti-coagulant?  If you recently started doing that, it would explain the bruising.

Happens to me all the time....usually on my hands or forearms if I scrape them against something hard while working in the yard or around the house. Good news is that they go away in a couple of weeks. Asked my dermo about it and she said that it is due to the skin becoming thinner as we age. I also take an 81 mg aspirin every day which probably makes it worse. That said, won't hurt to get your doc's opinion too. Regards,

Are you taking fish oil supplements?  A friend who is on coumadin had to stop taking the oil since it can prevent the blood from clotting.  I know some on this site use them as a dietary supplement with the hope to control or prevent PCa.  Just a thought...

No, not taking fish oil, only daily multivitamin, 1,000 iu d3, and 150 mcg Sellenium.

I'm at the 2+ year post-op timeframe now.  I never experienced bruising, until the past couple of months.  But, I had heart surgery in June and am on Plavix, aspirin and some other meds ... several of which create the easy bruising possibilities I'm facing.  I've not heard of easy brusing associated with prostate cancer or prostate cancer surgery before.
