In February of 2008 I went in for outpatient surgery for an inguinal hernia patch and, after a series of misfortunes, ended up on a catheter for 3 and a half months. An enlarged prostate was one of the contributing factors and subsequent tests revealed a rising PSA. By February of 2009 I was in for a prostate biopsy and the result was what we all fear.

I have been fortunate since my RRP in May of 2009. I have had virtually no adverse side affects. I've been continent since the catheter was removed 8 days post surgery and I have experienced no issues with ED.

Everything has been great so far particularly considering the trials and tribulations that some HW members undergo.

Until now. I've developed a problem, though minor, that really has me stressed. I've developed another inguinal hernia, on the other side and need to have it looked after. My prostate surgery went so well that I consider it a breeze compared to the issues I had with my prior hernia repair and it really has me shook thinking about this simple outpatient surgery. To make things more worrisome, my sweet wife will be going in for some corrective surgery several weeks after mine and I worry that I may not be well enough to able to help her through her own ordeal.

Anyone else ever been in this situation? Any words of wisdom?

Most likely it will be a routine in and out out patient deal with no complications. Inserting the mesh is fairly straight forward.

On the other hand, if you are really worried about caring for your wife, it is usually not an emergency type of surgery and could most likely be postponed for 2 or 3 months as long as you keep and eye on it and watch for strangulation.

I had 2 inguinal surgeries when I was a kid. They even had us wear a truss back then to keep it in place. Don't know if they even use those anynmore.

After kicking the PC, you can handle about anything.

For a normal inguinal hernia, there should be no need for a camera up the penis, so hopefully, there won't be a problem this time because you are peeing out a straight pipe.
