OCTOBER SURGERIES

I use 2 pads a day. They are normally dry but I change them for sanitary reasons.
ED haven't tried as instructed by my urologist. I think I'm back to normal but doctor says I need to limit my activity to walking.

The last 2 nights I've dreamt I was standing at a urinal having a wonderful release I then woke up to a wet pad. Last night it went through the pad to my underwear. What makes it really strange is I don't normally dream or at least I don't remember them. Both nights I had been up 3 hrs earlier to urinate.

I must have had the same dream last week. Two nights in a row. Then dry again. I really change the pads for cleanliness and they are not usually soaked.

I am depressed with the inability to do simple tasks. I cannot sit or stand at my workbench for any length of time more than an hour a day as I get rectal spasms and an intense hollow pain inside and I pay for my fun time with pain. We are so thankful that the cancer was removed and I have so much family and friend support.

I remember the surgeon telling me that my prostate was pushing up into my bladder and that I may take a little longer to regain continence ect.

Walking makes me tired and leak a little, but you have to walk.

There is a light at the end of the rainbow (or something like that) and everyday is a little better. I feel like Eyore.

Just stopping by to wish the October guys the best.  Some of you are making great progress.  My husband wishes he was farther along.  However, he is grateful to have the cancer out of him. 

Ger, I hope you don't have any more of those "nightmare" type dreams!

Two months as of Sunday the 12th. Tomorrow I go to the urologist. I'm hoping he says I can try for an erection. I'm also looking to start an exercise program to shed some of the excess weight I've gained. I may do something even if he says wait. I don't know if he'll want do do a PSA. I'll post tomorrow after my visit. Insurance deductible has been met ($5.500) for the year so tomorrow is "free".

Alegar - You're not alone. Tim has also been using pantiliners for a couple of weeks. Usually one during the day and one at night. Not quite ready for au natural but he is much more comfortable with the fact that an occasional dribble is handled easily with much less bulk than the man pads provide.

One benefit is when I buy the needed supplies, I can pretend they are for me....instead of pretending they are for my dad (who at 82 and with Parkinson's does need them 24/7)!

Ger, I don't understand why your drugstore won't honor your free supply.  My husband took his prescription and the printed coupon, and he was given the free pills.

It is sad that needed help cost so much!  I believe it is 2012 that the patent on Viagra expores, so the price will go down.  Until then, I don't know what else would work.  Good luck in finding the answers!

Ron has been pad free for several weeks.  He believes rehab and doing the Kegels really did help him!  He's so happy about this.

My pharmacy said the coupon was a severe hassle, so they did the free month separately, then opened the real prescription. Something about the number of pills allowed per month and split billing - the insurance company paperwork is likely the problem. Your pharmacy may be taking the easy way out. Take the Rx to a major chain and try them.

Well, 11 weeks now post surgery and time to check back in. While I had a rough go of it with surgery and immediate recovery, post hospital recovery has been great. I still leak on occasion (lifting or other similar activity). And yes, Ive had the urinal dream as well once and similar reaction. That dream would be an interesting study and I was surprised to read that others have had it. Fortunately, it has happened only once.

In the ED department, my surgeon recommended therapy within a couple of weeks of surgery and provided a couple of Viagra samples. I saw my local urologist for a 6 wk follow-up and she gave me a month supply of Cialis which is now gone. I have been able to get usable results w/o the Viagra and things seem to be progressing well there.

Six week PSA results came back "undetectable" and doing the 3 month test in a week or so.

Here's hoping all of us October members have a better new year than the one we just finished

Hello, everybody.

Just got through spending the last 23 days in bed with a bad cold (thanks to my sick neighbors who decided they wanted to drop in one evening). I have not been on HW for a long while and wanted to check in. I am scheduled for my first postop PSA 2/9/11.

Incontinence: Still using just a pantyliner because I have a "dribble" every 10 days or so. These accidents seem to take longer and longer to happen so I'm happy with the progress.

ED: Received my battery powered pump and it helps retain size. I try to use it everyday but find it weird telling my wife to excuse me while I "work out". Taking 20mg Cialis every 3 days. It only gives me a slight warm feeling in my groin area but does not seem to help with erections. I have to take things into my own hands to achieve about 30% enlargement (unusable for sex).

Emotional Health: I am not as disturbed about the ED issue as I thought I would be. Seems my desire for sex has diminished substantially. I feel as though I might have been castrated. Wife seems okay with it as there are other ways to express love and caring. I do worry about this sudden sensitivity I am experiencing. Darn...I find myself getting ....arrrrghhh, emotional. Shed a few tears watching a touching story a couple of times.What in the world is happening to me?! I don't like this.

Spiritual: Death seems to be on top of my mind daily. Not my own, only...but the awareness of the passing of the time we all have. Our mortality, I guess. So I'm in a philosophical funk and trying to make sense of how this applies to me. I think that global events may have something to do with it as well. I am learning to live in the moment and appreciate the everyday nuances. I wish I could get my friends and family to slow down.

Hello all from sunny South Florida.
I decided to stop feeling sorry for myself and put an effort into getting myself healthy. I changed my eating habits and started going to the gym 2 weeks ago. My weight had gotten to 198 with a waist measurement of 44" at the navel. I'm now down to 192 and hope to be around 175-180 with a waist of 32-34 by the end of March. I paid for a personal trainer to make sure I don't hurt myself when exercising. All my work outs are on machines with the aim to limit the stress to my abdomen. I still leak every day seems to be when getting up after sitting for a long time. Have not had any leakage while exercising. Peter still has not awakened even with me taking Cialis daily. Some stirring but no big break through. My next visit to the urologist is Feb 11th.
Hope all the Oct "guys" are doing well. That also goes out to all the others who are members of this dreaded club.

Atr least in the US, the insurance will only consider a pump that is prescribed by a physician. That limits the scope a lot (mainly to the very expensive one). Call the pump manufacturer - they should be able to tell you what procedure code they use for their pump. Then call the insurance company and ask. If they say yes, or there is any question, but the opinion is yes, ask them to send you the opinion in writing. Then order it.

If they argue later (mine did), you have the letter to back you up.
