Dear David,

Congratulations for reaching this landmark of 9000 posts - a landmark that only a few will ever get to.

Although some of this has had to do with your complex medical issues relating to PCa, many many of these posts are to support and welcome people to this site. There are not many places in the the internet that are as warm and caring and responsive and like a family as this site and you are certainly a person that contributes tremendously to make it so.

One of the amazing things about David's posts is that many of them were welcoming and/or supportive and written at times when David could barely stand the pain he was going through himself.  David has provided a caring shoulder for lots of folks who have come and gone from HW and I'm glad that An took the time to notice his contributions.

Now, as for James' bet, I don't want any part of that.  I think James took all our money on the "When will David be back?" lottery so I think James has inside information!  Or maybe he controls the counter!

In all seriousness, David, thanks for the time you take and the concern you feel for your fellow PCa patients and their families.

An, thanks for noticing. I was up late last night and didn't realize I crossed the next mark. And thanks guys/gals, I am not aiming for a record and there is no reward to posting a lot. I do my own thing here, I have taken a lot of support from here and I have given a lot of support here, so I figure it all works out in the end.

Some don't know, that I was a moderator for a brief period here, not long after joining, but I resigned for health and personal reasons. For me to be me, I have to be able to say what I am thinking from the heart. I try to be neutral, but can't always and still be true to myself.

I consider myself just another smuck with PC, and I happen to like to write, its how I best express myselfe. I am awkward on the phone.

We are a group effort here, doesnt matter to me, if someone posts 10 times a year, or ends up like me, we all contribute in all own way. And we couldn't do what we do, or say what we say, without the generous contribution of the site's owner, Peter. So the few times the few forumn rules have to be enforced by our moderators, we shouldn't be too upset, as we have so much latitude as it is.

This place means the world to me, literally. To me, the spirit of brotherhood and sisterhood here, is real.

David, I echo many of the above comments. Your caring and support has shown through countless numbers of times. You were one of the very first to welcome me here almost a year and a half ago.

Your words of support took me through some really dark and stormy days.

Neal, there are plenty of PC questions that I have no experience with. You never see me answering ED or Incontinence issues. Its all a learning process. All I know is surgery and radiation stuff on the PC end. I don't like to pretend to know what I don't know.

I didn't mean that you answer questions that you don't have an answer for. I was trying to say it's just nice that someone greets you when you first join here. I don't have answers for most of the questions.

Recognizing the tone of "get a life"  :-)  

I'll add my response given when the tone isn't a joke (too many of my young friends an co-workers don't understand that they will be on this road someday) - "That's why I met Mr. DaVinci! To not die from Prostate Cancer. Isn't that getting a life?".

David has been there most every day, and was my "coach" through radiation. Must have accounted for a few hundred of those posts right there smilewinkgrin

David, the word I want to send you isn't "congratulations," it's "thanks." Good times, bad times, you speak with a caring honesty that makes it impossible for me not to click on any "Purgatory" thread.

I'm not looking forward to your 10,000th ---- I'm looking forward to 18,000 and beyond.

I was surprised when I saw that this thread had been started by someone. I hadn't thought of doing it, I knew I was closing in on the 9k mark, but didn't noticed the exact post that took me over the line. I am not saying that we are the only group here on HW, but I have had some dealings with other maladies here, and not all groups are as open, honest, friendly, and welcoming as we are as a group. Nor do they get the level of responses that we produce. It is a group effort, regardless of any particular number of posts. If nothing else, I like to think of it being a number we can all share to make our Prostate cancer stand out strongly, in support of our cause. Didn't realize until recent, that I am the 9th top poster out of 92,000 plus members, that really shocked me. Never set out to do that.

Have you all noticed that even since New Years, how many new members we have picked up? I am happy to welcome them all into to our family, but it brings sadness to my heart, that it truly is an endless line of men, or wives/daughters of men trailing in here, with no end in sight. The long term future has to get better for men, there has to be better research, better procedures, better meds, etc. It may not help most of us in this generation of PC patients, but gosh, if my sons ever came down with it, and I pray they don't, I can only hope they face a better future in dealing with, or my grand son's generation too.

Thanks, lifeguyd, I think you got the math part down pretty good! Sheldon, you have always been a good friend here, love hearing from you. And Billy Mac, sure would love to meet you in the flesh. My mother was going on the other night, about what criminals and barbarians the Oz folks are (remember she a London girl), I just laughed, and said I had many a good Oz mate on the group. Just the way she grew up, she still thinks of it as a Convict state I suppose. What the heck, she's almost 84.

We, as a group, just need to keep on going, keep on trying, and keep on helping the newly dx - we all know their fears and troubles when they come aboard. The day we get cold to that fact, is the day we might as well close up shop.

I couldn't wait for the day when it would be removed. 10 days seemed like forever to wait. Then I read your specs and was shocked to realize yours was in for many months and you were still sane, positive, and caring. I figured if you could be that way, I could be too.
