I hear what you say about that feeling with a really full bladder. There is nothing any more uncomfortable that a bulging bladder.....how do you spell relief....

I don't recall as much soreness as you seem to have. They must have really did some work on the tender parts down there. I continued to have a lot of scrotum soreness/tenderness and in the perineal area that gradually got better. Also the boys were swollen for a long time. Even today it's a bit uncomfortable to lay on my side in bed unless I reach down and move them to the front so my inner thighs don't put pressure on them. I bought a special "leg/knee pillow" at Wal Mart that that works really well to keep the legs separated and it makes for much more comfortable sleeping. I still use it occasionally today. A standard pillow works pretty well also but the leg/knee pillow is a bit easier to manage and it is shapped correctly.

Hang on to the penis, hopefully you are going to put him to good use again soon.

Hey Jeff,

Hope the swelling goes down soon and the sling is operating to full specification/efficacy when things settle down. As Goodlife said...maybe you can sell your Mettler on eBay. But, I know you're using it for lots of other things, too.

Jeff - sounds like a good time for healing this weekend - and some guilty non-leaking pleasures - c/o the big yellow purse ( does Macy's carry a designer version of that?)
-when we used to take the family dog for a ride we would do the treat routine - and he would be bounding around the car - but if we took route "a" that went by the v.e.t.'s he would scrunch down and hide - and after passing it, he would get up again and beg for a treat .... I thought of you hiding during the car ride -

Whew...I too am glad they left you alone. Who needs that stress over the weekend. Drink tons of beer...OJ, caffeine...all that stuff you've been avoiding! Road trip? Let's party. Bar hopping? you just empty your bag in the guttter outside...it's the best!

Update for 1/17 One week after sling surgery

I spent all weekend carrying the 2 liter yellow purse and drinking as much and as often as I liked. Last night I slept through the night.
Appointment today was 8:30 first thing in the morning. With the temp outside at -4F (-20C), I was worried that by the time we cleared the snow off the car and the heater got up to temp my bag would freeze. It didn't.

At 8:40 the RN put 180 ml into my bladder, pulled the catheter and had me pee.

8:45 120 ml Not enough "Please wait in the office and try again" Drink water.
9:30 120 ml Retained volume was 214 ml <--- Not good "Please wait in the office and try again, about 5ml leak in to my pad darn it!
10:20 205 ml Retained volume was 105 ml "Hmm, Go home, but if you have a problem, come back. I'll be here until 7:30PM."
11:05 174 ml in toilet and 86 ml in pad! Darn darn darn!
13:51 173 ml
15:40 139 ml But I am getting that "full bladder feeling".

So now it's 16:30 I have napped twice today. I will wait until I finish supper and decide if I need to go back. I don't want another night like last Tuesday.

I like your positive attitude. (paraphrasing) "If you can pee well in the beginning then when the swelling goes down you might leak."
Let's hope that is the case.

I don't have the Foley. But if I go back there tonight I will be taught how to self-cath.

Update- 1/18
I continued to go semi-frequently in moderate amounts. Just so we understand the numbers, back in the day "a full bladder" for me was 420 ml.

I urinated every 2 - 3 hours in quantities of about 140 - 176ml
I woke up only twice during thenight feeling that I was about to burst but each time the amount was only around 150 ml.

Most likely this means my bladder is retaining fluid. By the way it feels, I estimate I'm retaining about 300 ml in there.
I will try it like this for another day or two. The Uro's office gave me a free pass to come in any time and they will do an ultrasound and cath if necessary.
Just knowing that gives me confidence to wait and see how long I can stand it.

On the very bright side. My pad is totally dry this morning.

You know me. I have data on everything. Intake and output. My Mettler balance is getting more use than a US postal service scale.
I even write down when I get one drop of leakage - I can feel it cascade down and into the pad. I made that my signal to urinate and it is amazingly consistent. Always at 150 - 170 ml! I'm just guessing here but there is probably 250 ml retained inside the bladder and I start to leak at 420ml.
The ultrasound will prove it one way or the other.
I will be patient. (At least until Thursday)

Update for 1/21 - Four days post catheter removal. Leak about 5-10 ml per day. Wearing panty liners, 2 per day.

Today is Friday. The catheter came out on Monday. I have been recording the time and volume of every pee, everything I drink, and the weight of the pads and underwear.
I won't bore you with the full details but they are available upon request.
Here is typical time between "events" and the volume for each day.

Mon 1.5 hours 140 ml 86ml
Tue. 2.0 hours 160 ml 15ml
Wed 2.5 hours 175 ml 10ml
Thu 4.0 hours 230 ml 5ml

I am still limiting myself to lifting less than 5 pounds, I take a nap (or two). I am not driving. I stopped all pain pills and am only taking stool softeners.

Yesterday, I only urinated 5 times with only a little leak! I can't wait to see what today brings. Guys, I think I might be getting my life back.
