Doc says "Nothing to worry about," Trust Him?

I can not agree more with what everone has been saying, and to question a false positive on your tests...Yes that can happen but follow the advice given allready no biking, no sex...48 hours prior to the PSA and that should be fine and if it is not then you have a "free" PSA test done to confirm the raise in PSA is not due to an infection or something harmless. I had no symptoms and had a PSA checked at the age of 43 one year later tested was slightly higher and a free psa sinched it till the biopsy was positive.

PLEASE.......get the PSA and then go from there for further testing ie the free PSA test and then biopsy. the longer you wait and if you do have something the worse it is

Well, here's data for you. You asked and got at least 17 data points of info, all saying the same thing. Get a test......That's fairly conclusive evidence that you have had your answer and it has been provided by some of the most knowledgegable and concerned guys available. Forget all the reports, etc, you are reading, you asked for advice and it's been given, in abundance and the answer is your doctor has been verging on negligance to have allowed you to get that old without normal standards of care being used for you. You should have had psa testing from age 50, and your doctor is either lazy, not up on his skills or just plain incompetant. In any case, you've had plenty of answers to your question. If you can't accept what you've been told, in such a large number of ways, then any further questions for us is futile. We guys do pay out a lot of emotional involvement in trying to help others, but sometimes we come across one who asks for help but then stonewalls all our answers with a variation of some kind of "Yes, but what if....?" Time to decide what your purpose for asking was for, was it for legitimate help in making a decision or to carry on a quasi-scientific discussion with us while you search the net for alternate views and suggestions? Sorry to be so harsh, but some of the guys here don't have a very large storehouse of emotional involvement they can spare to people who dither around with information that to them seems black and white, as far as what decision someone should make.

If you really are a science-type fellow, I am surprised that you are not getting the data you need. I guess if you google around enough you will find some article that justifies your inactivity.

I would suggest you also try and find out what the standard of care is for males over age 50 in terms of routine physical examinations.

I am absolutely appalled at the medical treatment you have received. I wonder if it is the doctor who is negligent or have you been offered these tests but refused.

Do you really think this is a biased group in terms of what tests we recommend to you?  Frankly, this is a highly intelligent group posting here.

hindsight being what it is, i no longer trust my former  gp or any other. if i've learned anything through all of this it is to be as knowledgeable as possible, and the knowledge unfortunately ain't coming from gp.  my 3.9 at dx should have been a red flag long before but i got the"under 4.0 is in the normal range". i now know albeit a little late that 3.9 is quite high for a 45 yo. also, i still get angry that they paid no attention to the steady rise over 18 months or so.

Oh, I deleted a couple of posts,(not relevant to the thread subject) so as to not provide aid and info to the sock puppet as to what he is doing to be detected and how to avoid it. No reason to help him get better educated in fooling us than he has already learned.
