Anniversary Week

Well it's been four years since Ruthie and I piled into a car rental (funny story in my journal) and headed to the City of Hope. And as Irony will have it, I will see that surgeon again this week. He is making a special trip to Las Vegas Thursday to be my guest speaker for the UsTOO group I run. This will be the second time that on My wife's birthday that I spent the day with him instead of her...lol.

But I want to thank HealingWell and the wonderful group we have here. I can't imagine what it would have been like to go this journey without you all. For a description of that crazy week four years ago I have updated my journal below...

Tony, may the Lord love and keep you too.

I spent Friday night in a hospital emergency lying on a stretcher not sure if I was checking out. At 5 a.m. the doctor said he didn't have any idea why I'd been having such chest pains since 11 that morning, but try as he might, he couldn't find anything wrong with my heart.

I'd been lying there thinking what a great life I'd had, and if in a short while it was to end, I had no complaints, and so many blessings. One of the blessings I counted was the friends I feel I have here at HW, and you Tony are high on that list. You, and many others here have taught me so much. Certainly about prostate cancer in my hour of need, but more fundamentally you have taught me that kindness, respect, open mindedness, caring, are all possible in the midst of adversity.

I'm a long way from perfect, but to the extent there is something good within, part of that goodness traces to your example, Tony, and to many, many others here.

I congratulate you on your four years, and I thank you for sharing, for your work here on this forum and for being a friend to all of us.

@ David ~ Yes sir it sure has been a wild ride. But I have no complaints.

@Sheldon ~ I hope you are feeling better! At least it was good news from the doc, no? Thank you for the post, Sheldon. The encouragement from you and all of the others goes a very long way. We have a very strong brotherhood (and sisterhood) and being in a support group was the best move I made after I was diagnosed.
