Hi all,

I've just retired 3 weeks ago and am in Florida where the weather is warm. I brought my bicycle and kayak and have been doing a 10 mile bike each morning and a couple of hour kayak each afternoon and of course I'm still leaking a pad a day. I use a contoured seat to avoid putting pressure on the prostate area but I still leak. I'm still doing kegels, 4-5 sets per day but seem to be stuck at the 1 pad a day level even though its been nine months since open surgery.

Does anyone have information on whether biking helps or aggravates leakage?

I'm 5 months out of surgery and have also been stuck at 1 pad/day for the past 3 and 1/2 months.  I ride an exercise bike every day and find that the pressure on my perineal area tends to make me leak, too.  I also leak a bit when I play golf...although the weather has not allowed me to test this since late November.

I do quite a bit of cycling and have not had a problem.

I took 8 months to stop leaking. Did an 80 mile jaunt this summer and was virtually dry. I think you will eventually learn how to do it. Maybe stop kegeling for a while, see if tha helps. It may be that they are getting tired.

Being in Holland I was cycling again within about 6 weeks of surgery. Starting with just a little then about 3 or 4 miles a day.

I have just cycled 10 miles without leaking, but it did make me feel like I needed to go a lot.
I do find that when I first get on my bike it still feels quite uncomfortable, but after a fw minutes things seem to readjust inside me or something and then I am okay. I also found that riding a bike without a crossbar makes a massive difference, as I then can get on and off without having to lift my legs far apart.

Yes, when you still have a prostate too much cycling can be bad for it and should be avoided for a few days prior to a PSA test.

I really enjoy cycling and clocking in some very nice rides here in Louisiana. I am on a road bike with that little seat. Most of the time I manage to stay dry. Every once and a while a drip will sneak out but heck like you in Florida I work up such a sweat so much no one can tell the difference. Happy cycling! I still think the benifits out weigh the risk. :)

corvette - sounds like you have not had to switch seats? did you at first? I am 3 weeks out from under the knife, and hoping to get back to cycling this summer (Chicago not very good for cycling this time of year). a buddy of mine did a century about 6 months after his, which I find to be a great inspirational success story, but am wondering how typical that is. he did switch to a "no nose" seat for a few months.
