I guess it's time for my monthly request for encouragement.

Palladium 103 seeds implanted February 1, 2011. Current status:

Urination: get about 50 cc (1/4 cup) slowly, then a halt. Walk around and up/down stairs, and get another 50-100cc more, with a better stream. Urinate about 30-35 times in 24 hours. Still on FloMax twice a day per doctor, who says not to reduce FloMax until stream is steadier.

Bowel: the constipation I had for the first two months has changed into loose "fragrant" bowel movements twice or three times a day. Sometimes a "surprise need to go" during urination, usually in early morning. Moderate abdominal cramping and gas. Sometimes a slight "pinch" in lower left abdomen at random times.

Edema in legs continues.

Last week had emergency surgery for detached retina. Unrelated to implant, but doesn't help the recovery process.

Any comments and/or "hang in there" wishes? This just seems to be taking longer than I expected compared to all the "seed side effects gone in first couple weeks" comments I've seen.

Tom, I don't have any experience with "seeds," but am sorry to hear of your continuing problems.  Everybody's bowel habits are different, so it's hard to say what to make of that.  It doesn't sound all that unusual to me, but obviously I'm not a doctor and can't speak with any kind of authority.

I hope you see some improvement soon on the frequent and sputtering urination.  The other problems with the detached retina and the edema may have other causes.  Are you on any kind of diuretic?  Is Flomax a diuretic?  I know Flomax is supposed to help with urination problems, but could it be that you need some type of diuretic as well to control the edema in the legs?  Also, have you looked at the Flomax drug info page to see if you're taking any other drugs that may be contraindicated with Flomax?

Tom, have you tried prolonging the need to urinate? Going 30-35 times a day you can't have much urine in the bladder which would explain the weak stream. I also had the urge about every 30 minutes for several months but found if I ignored it I could go longer than I thought and gradually got up to an hour. Then two. Now I go about every three hours. I wouldn't worry about how you're progressing compared to others. I think everybody reacts differently. I too thought something was wrong when my side effects were worse than what I read on the internet. Hang in there and talk to your doctor if you think things aren't right.

Thanks RayPat. Interesting idea about the frequent urge and low bladder content. Makes sense. The urge is often "urgent", but I'll try to prolong things best I can.
