I just saw a slide on the expiration dates of the existing patents for the "big three" (pardon the pun) ED drugs...Here they are:

Viagra ~ March 27, 2012
Levitra ~ 2018
Cialis ~ between 2017 and 2020

With Viagra coming off patent in 2012 that means that we will likely have the generic available here in the US. What impact that will have on the price of Levitra and Cialis remains to be seen. I would think that those prices will have to come down or the Viagra generic will dominate the market. Should prove to be interesting next March.

For all the men everywhere in need of ED drugs, 2012 should be a good year, I knew the patent was ending soon, but wasnt sure when. That's good news. Every single med I am currently, is in generic form, and saves us a fortune monthly.

Not sure if either Cialis or Levitra will even try to compete with a generic Viagra in cost. The closest competitor to the generic Viagra would be Viagra itself. Many will pay a lower price for the "original" vs switch to a generic equivalent

There is some history that shows that competitors have not budged on their pricing

In the Statin world

Neither Lipitor nor Crestor took a price hit when Zocor went generic
(Simvatatin). In Dec 2011 Lipitor goes generic it will be interesting to see what Crestor does

And here's an interesting scenario where Viagra can take sales from a Rx reguired generic

I think there will be an impact but to what degree remains to be seen. In the other choices with Statins insurance covered the cost so it was not a difficult decision for the patient. This isn't true for the ED drugs. Insurance limits the coverage and it is very pricy without the insurance. If everybody can get a viagra generic then what is 20 dollars a pill drops to 10 dollars for a monthly prescription then that's a big difference. It will be interesting to see what happens...

There will be a lot of winners I think in this forum.

I agree ED patients will come out winners. Now can you imagine how much of a win it would be for Viagra if the OTC option works out. I bet there are thousands of men who would not have the nerve to go to a Dr but to a pharmacist,, I think so

Levitra and Walmart have already started the downward price trend, they cost $9 per pill there ( 10 pill/mo limit) w/no ins
