Husband in surgery right now ( RP) ,,, I have checked the battery in my watch and changed it to be sure, time sure does stand still

I'm sending along best wishes. Hope that surgery is uneventful. I was completely out of it - got out of recovery in the evening, and don't remember much except discovering the plastic snake.

Waiting for news ...

My day is coming soon and I hope all goes well for him. I think it will be a relief when it is complete, behind him and the recovery process can start.

Thinking of you both and sending a prayer for you guys, that he will have a quick, but successful surgery and a good recovery.

Now the mantra: drink, walk, drink, walk, as soon and as often as possible. He needs to be on his feet asap. If just for 20 ft at a time to start, walking and drinking water is critical to his fast recovery and feeling much better. Got to flush the toxins, surgery residue, chunks, bits and pieces out. The 10 days or whatever of having the catheter is a time of freedom to drink as much as he wants, with no need to run to the bathroom, so take advantage of it.

Steve is right, it's all downhill from here. He might feel severe pressure/pain in the bladder right out of surgery. I was out of it and the nurse in the recovery room wasn't great about explaining it to me. I thought something was wrong. Nothing was wrong, this is a normal sensation we all have after surgery. Just mentioning in case your husband wonders about it. That was the only real discomfort throughout process.

I was 6 hours lights-out to being coherent in recovery. My crew was given updates every hour or so.

remember he will be in recovery room after operation. He's probably there already. They can take anywhere from 90 min to 4 hours usually. Try not to worry, he's in good hands and if anything was wrong you would have already been notified. Right now he's probably in the recovery room swearing at the nurse to give him some pain killers for the bladder sensation his brain has to get used to.

It's good to hear from you.  Yes, the wait is interminable for the spouse anxious to hear that everything went well.  My surgery lasted over 4 hours and my wife said it was a v-e-r-r-r-r-y long day.  Take care and hang in there.

My wife also had a very long wait...in part because they were waiting for a room to be readied.  Believe me, he'll be as glad to get out of that recovery room and back with you as you'll be to be back together with him.

he went in at 11:20 and now 5:20 , I just checked and they said he is still in OR.

time is spent before surgery and post surgery before they cart you off to recovery room. I'm sure that within the hour you'll have a full report from the surgeon and will be able to be with your husband shortly. You'll be extremely busy this coming week. He also won't be able to sleep much tonight and will need you there with him so try to rest now if you can at all.

seriously, does anybody remember the recovery room?  I don't!  I am told the doc came in and went over everything, then chuckled and told my wife that likely I would not remember anything he just said.

He was right!

Last memory was of the anesthetic...a big vile of a white liquid and the words "nightey-nite".

Klains, glad you survived that post from last week and are still among us.  You and the hubby will be just fine.

This is long. But mine was 90 minutes longer than expected because Dr. Menon ran into scar tissue from a prior (at birth) umbilical hernia repair and he wanted to do it correctly.

My mother wasn't concerned about the time I was in. She told me that she felt the longer i was in there the better job they were doing addressing every single detail. She didn't want them to rush it.

do they do anything for the pressure bladder pain, or can they?

They should have it available. Bladder spasm can be brutal, but controlled with proper meds. Be alert to the need, as he will be getting some mixed signals from his urinary system, between the catheter and the slicing and dicing done. I remember asking for it as soon as I was aware, as a precaution, which they gave me.

Not sure the bladder pain is universal.  I don't remember anything like that at all.  In fact, I don't remember much in the way of pain at all.....just weak.  I felt pretty good, though people who visited told me later I looked like hell.  Please let us know when he's out of recovery, even if just a two word message.
