Why do old guys even need a prostate?

I understand the incontience to be problematic, but y I have read so many people on this board cringe over the fact that they could become impotent after Prostate surgery. I just don't understand it.

Viagra, Cialis, etc....

Why do old people need to have sex?

I hate to sound insensitive, but I can't figure out why people think being impotent at age 40 and above is such a big deal. Most people are married with kids.... It just seems like a non-issue...

 

Define "old"

Think you are just stirring the pot, having to give up sex at 40,50, or 60, is terrible for both partners, more so for ppl in thier 40's

Actually, I agree with part of the original question, why do "old" guys need a prostate? The fact is, once child bearing days are done, the prostate is useless. Its only use is to produce a fluid that helps the sperm survive. If it could be safely removed without causing ED or other SEs, it would make a lot of sense to remove it once you're done with kids, sort of like a vasectomy. No prostate = no PC.

Problem is, of course, there is no way currently to do that. But maybe in the future there may be some method like HIFU to burn or dissolve it prophylactically without SEs.

Does your office do prostate installations? What if one of those ample, childbearing age DCC decides to exercise all her reproductive components to their fullest potential and wants 23 of my chromosomes to make the cocktail. What ever shall I do?

There are women who have their breasts removed as a preventative measure...I can see high-risk men having their prostates removed for the same reason..If done when you are young and HEALTHY, no cancer, the surgeon can use techniques that would greatly limit impotence and incontinence, a whole different operation. Maybe not so "radical"..

Just think of it as a high-octane vasectomy and an insurance policy against PC...Properly marketed, this could be a new lode for surgeons to mine...."Pay me now or pay me much more later" Never have to worry about a PSA test again..Slap on 3 testosterone patches, strut around like Mr. Studly...

I'm 36 and going for my surgical pre-consultation on Monday. Am I "old" and therefore should I not be able to have sex? Or is 40 the "official age" at which sex is no longer important. Steve said you're 21. You have to be the most idiotic 21 year old I've encountered, but then again I'm educated and successful...so I avoid moronic kids.

Old people need to have sex to keep their minds off of worrying about the fate of the world in the hands of the younger generation :)
