I would appreciate hearing from any/all you gentlemen out that who have undergone Dr. Bob Leibowitz' Triple Hormone Blockade protocol.  Please feel free to "tell it like it is", good or bad.  Thanks for the help.

i finished 13 months of triple hormone ....maybe 3yrs ago ..now need to look at records....psa went up to around 10 in about 2 yrs following and i went on 4 months of shots....now psa is 2.1 6 months out from shots....last testosterone was 237....but should go up as i exercise and take supplements[vitamins]....i sellected this treatment myself after finding triple hormone blockade on the internet after diagnosis....my enlared medium lobe up to the bladder ruled out all the treatments but the radical prostatectomy...i was on homone zolodex...to shrink prostate when i found triple hormone....so that my story so far....i am happy with the providence occurrance of triple hormone treatment....larry

Hello Ken,

I am currently on Intermittent Triple Androgen Blockade Therapy under the direction of Dr Steven Tucker in Singapore. 10-months into the 1-year course using Zoldadex, Casodex, and Avodart (I believe Dr Leibowitz prefers Proscar).

Initial PSA was 19.2 and currently 0.033 (May 2008).

Negative aspects of treatment: Medically castrated, muzzy feeling quite a lot of the time, get tired quite easily. I have not experienced other possible effects like "hot flashes", at least not significantly. Not a standard treatment recommended by most doctors. Expensive medication (but I buy cheaper generic versions of Casodex and Avodart).

Positive aspects of treatment: Most if not all of the negative effects are reversable when I stop taking the medication (not so with standard treatments). I hope to delay the necessity for more radical treatment in the hope that better treatments will be developed. Survival prognosis is at least as good if not better than radical treatments over 8 years.

So far I'm pleased the way things are going with TAB. Let me know if you need any more info.

I'd really like to know how these men are doing now...and other's who've been on triple blockade hormone therapy for an extended period of time.

I have mentioned Rick K's story on this forum many times, nobody seemed all that interested, the short story is 15+ yrs., after doing this protocol, rebiopsied 3 times over the years, no cancer found to date and very functional. I won't bore you with the details! (lol)

Lee-send me an email I will give you his email and home phone number, he is willing to talk to patients...he has shared his story at my PCa support group years ago...he is not fond of internet and likely arguements is my guess.

I have been following his story since 2002.

I just had an annual appointment with Dr Myer yesterday. He had me on ADT3 for 12 months and recommneded that I stop now. I told him that I would be very happy to be off HT, but would be willing to stay on longer if it would help my chances for a cure or long remission. He said that ADT3 would kill as many cancer cells as it is going to in about 9 months, so that 12 months should be sufficient for someone who responds well (my PSA went undetectable right away and stayed undetectable through the treatment). He also said that it would take he up to 6 months to recover from HT. Some men never fully recover from a 2-3 year HT program.

Regarding SE's, I had many, but no problems with bone density, cognitive issues, emotional problems/depression or fatigue.

As for my hubby, Irv, his PSA was around 30 before surgery back in November, but, post-op, it was only down to 1.12 and then, within less than 2 months was at 2.19. We're in Canada and we fought for triple blockade. On the first check after 6 weeks, Irv's PSA was down to .22 and the latest PSA, just before his second Zoladex injection was .12

After surgery he had most of the stats that would make him very high risk.... positive margins, extracapsular penetration and seminal vesicle involvement. His Gleason score was 3+4 (7). His biopsy had shown 10/10 cores positive and post-op, it was confirmed that his prostate was 80% cancerous. Radiation was not seen as a viable option due to his past history with colitis.

My understanding was that Irv should have 12 months of undetectable PSA before taking a vacation period from hormone therapy. In that case, we're looking at about 16 to 18 months at this point since he hasn't reached that level yet.

Any comments would be welcome.
